Not a Bad Opener for SJP

The Honor Bowl is really ramping things up - Centennial v IMG will be a monster:

http://www.thehonorgroup.org/img-academy-to-face-corona-centennial-in-honor-bowl-in-2016/

And Mission Viejo has a great facility for this event while the Diablos finished 16-0 in 2015 and ranked as a national Top Ten club while the only nick on a 14-1 Centennial last season was its 28-21 loss to De La Salle in the CIF Open Bowl (they were ranked 4 in the country). Serra finished 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the tough Trinity League (its losses were to Chaminade, Mater Dei and then one beat down by Centennial, 52-13 -- ouch). Plus IMG -- wow, at 9-0 they got everyone's attention (and a top five finish). Oaks v St. Joe's should be fun (the Lions were 11-1 last year after a few less than stellar seasons and look to be back in the groove).

This should get some attention on the big stage as they had this down in Oceanside previously (maybe San Diego too) and it was mostly California teams. Looking back in 2015 Eastside Catholic, from just outside Seattle, Washington, was the only non-California team and then it seems that the Bellevue, Washington Wolverines were the only out-of-state team in 2014:

That's funny as the wing-T the Wolverines "run" scares everyone in SoCal (nobody runs that system out here -- heck, a bunch of SEPA teams would send shivers down their spines). I'm sure that everyone remembers it was Bellevue that ended De La Salle's streak running what looked more like a single-wing.

Great opener....against one of the top QBs in SoCal. Where's Mater Dei?

I had heard that SJP had a combination of options including the Landry Classic (?) in Texas as well. Big time opener.

SJP is not doing the Landry Classic, it was an option. McCray will be the starter. Who else would it be?

I thought McCray was the most likely starter but didn't know if there was someone a year behind him who was especially promising or if the other sophomore QB was a possibility. (I am trying to keep track from a distance and saw only one game "live" last year--the PCL championship.)

If my new math is correct, that accounts for seven games including league games. I believe that allows for one more game if the bye at week 4 stays in place. I suspect the likely suitor would be one of the NJ powers?? Time will tell.

It would be too bad if the Malvern series has to be discontinued. I would much prefer to see the 6A PCL semifinals be discontinued, but I know that's not going to happen this year.

Tulla -
No doubt something has to give. I'd be fine keeping Malvern on the schedule. It would be good for both teams.

Don Bosco is week 2(home), than week 3 is Wood(away)

When you say week 2, you mean 9/10 or 9/11? I'm still trying to find out if districts are starting their regular season the week before Labor Day. If that's the case, Labor Day weekend would be week 2. I know that showcase event is Labor Day weekend, so I take it SJP won't start their season before Labor Day?

What's interesting is that Coatesville and Perk Valley are looking for games the weekend of 8/26-8/27.

Week 2 for SJP is weekend of 9/10-9/11. SJP has 2 scrimmages, week before opener is St. Joseph Regional other is Imhotep

BTM, is there a site available to access the 2016 HS football schedules ? I have not been able to find that information, thanks
No site that has this information out yet. Week 4 is Archbishop Carroll, than a bye. Do not remember the order of rest of the schedule

So the bye does not align with the Freshman retreat as it has in the past?? Or maybe the retreat was moved? I know Coach Infante is a fan of the bye to get the kids' academics in gear.

Yeah, after travelling to Dallas, then playing a North Jersey superpower, a week off is always good to get the academics in order. Gimme a break dude. Not like the kids don't deserve it, but gimme a break on the academic break. I have no issue with SJP but when you start to stroke yourself in front of me I am ask you to stick back in your pants.

Such hostility - and it's only January. To clue you in, the bye is usually after week three. Also, it has been in place for quite some time. To put it another way, you're typing out your azz.

I was half kidding, cmon. I agree the bye is week three. But can we agree that limited folks give a rats azz about the freshman retreat or the academic catch up?
Let's not make this out to be more than it is.

Frankly, that is when the intensity really kicks in and academics are in full throttle. Likely, first set of tests have been administered and it's a time to evaluate who is up to speed and who needs to get their priorities aligned. Academics have been main reason for the bye.

The fact that we are debating this is silly. The same thing applies to every school. Right around this time the boys need to prioritize the academics and learn to excel with both the sport and the classroom. My point is pardon me if I don't pin the blue ribbon for caring about academics directly on your lapel. With you guys it is like cross fit or P90x, or an iwatch. The first thing you learn is to tell everybody else about it. Hopefully you guys can look in the mirror and see how arrogant you sound.

How is that arrogant ? It's simply a decision that is based on academics as it relates to the bye. If you think academics at SJP are not rigorous, then you would be mistaken.

No Rocks,
I heard that D'Orazio is going to survey all the other WR in the NFL and find out how may hours of film study they are doing and then he is going to make "his" WRs study twice as much as the others, so he can shout from the top of the Linc that his WR study the most of any WR that has ever played football!
Also - In other news:
D'Orazio just asked Roger Godell if they can have the Eagles bye week moved to right before WR "testing" so his WRs can study b/c D'Orazio doesn't want the work of "football" interfering with the smartest, hardest working, longest studying WRs in the NFL!
OVER-RA-TED - CHA CHA - CHA CHA CHA - OVER-R-A-TED!
ALSO - D'Orazio wants his WRs to pay 3 times the current retail cost for receiver's gloves - he said these are all values he had learned while at
St. "Average Joe's" Prep!
LEAGUE EXPERTS SAY - these tactics will not work and that the other WRs in the league will out perform the Eagles WRs

Coincidentally,
Wood is trying to find a bye week in which all of their players can go see their previous high schools play and visit with old friends. The rigors of a tough academic schedule may or may not be considered in finding the appropriate bye week. Depends on incoming senior and junior class members. Stay tuned!

BA-ZINGA!!

Probably not getting much sleep with all that "average joe's" homework keeping you up at night, Am I right! Most homework in the State!
In fact I was at the Smithsonian and they had a special display on Education and average joe's was there 2 times...
Once for the invention of homework and another time for schools that have created the perception that more means better!
But overall it was a small display, that couldn't make it to the big display in the city..... I think LaSalle got that booth.

Oh, wait a minute ...... Isn't that the exclamation that "BIG NERD" who prances around on TV says - Did he graduate from the Prep too?
or is that just you?

As I am certain you missed the irony of the situation, I feel compelled to illustrate it for you. Your 'most homework in the State' comment and multiple posts in the past about the academic workload that SJP kids experience feed directly into my post about the bye week. Please note that I never stated the SJP players NEED the bye. Rather, I said it was welcomed. Thanks for unknowingly bolstering my point.

As I've informed you before, I am not an SJP grad.

FU - Please see below. Repetition is a process to learning. Therefore, 'more is better' is a concept worth using. I hope this helps. Please put down the glue and pick up a book. There's still time, it's never too late. Enjoy!

You could possibly be the biggest "NERD" ever associated with the prep and that's saying a lot.
(see display above)
How many "student athletes" will commit to West Chester Univ. (Prep West) on Wednesday?
I think there was 5 or 6 on the team in 2014, wasn't there? LMKYT's NERD

Back to the topic, I find it interesting that The Prep and Imhotep are not playing each other.
Gabe wants NO part of the TEP team, I was in Gabe's office and he is scared, He doesn't want to schedule TEP, just like he didn't want to schedule Wood in the past and backed out.

What were you doing filling his vending machine? Total BS. They scrimmage TEP every year. As for Wood, beat them twice before the series ended. What was he scared of, blowing them out. I think it is Scuba Steve that was scared and dropped the Prep.
