North Penn field

Question for board. It's been said more than once that the grass field is normally pretty bad late in the season. Has the school district ever discussed installing an artificial surface? Thanks

Some years ago they installed a turf field adjacent to the stadium by the tennis courts. I believe doing turf in the stadium was discussed at the time but not acted upon. I did read that they are examining a fairly large overhaul of the entire athletics department facilities. On this agenda would be the stadium. I believe this includes the running track, snack bars, a turf field and possible seating upgrades along with scoreboard and some overall aesthetic appearance stuff. This, however, is over a fairly long period. I am not sure which they would start with. I am hoping they start with the football related facilities.

My understanding was they had an opportunity via Nike to install a turf field with the condition that it be named Nike Crawford stadium. School didn't go for it. Truth to this?

This is the one year this field may work against NP with that air attack. You get a little rain and it is a mudpit.

If there are serious issues with the field, wouldn't surprise me if they move the location to a place like Souderton. NP did pretty well in '03 playing all their home playoff games at Wissahickon.

At this point it is still in the early discussion stages.. they had a consultant draft some plans and estimate costs. With the tax base having a large senior population it would be a tough sell if it was put to vote. I know for items like a fence around the baseball field the team had to fund raise and pay for the upgrade. The district tried to put a turn field in around the same time that CB west did a few years ago and it was shot down.
