Neshaminy has made Super Bowl history! As part of the celebration of Super Bowl 50, the NFL sent high schools across the country a gold-colored football in honor of their alumni players that competed in Super Bowls during the past 50 years. Neshaminy has received FOUR of these footballs - which are now on display at NHS.

Our honored players are:

Chris Bahr, NHS Class of 1970. Chris was a place kicker for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders, playing in Super Bowl XV and XVIII. His brother Matt Bahr (see below) was also a NHS graduate and NFL Super Bowl Player. For college, Chris attended and played for Penn State.

Matt Bahr, NHS Class of 1974. Matt was a place kicker in Super Bowl XIV for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Super Bowl XXV for the New York Giants. For college Matt attended and played for Penn State.

Harry Schuh: NHS Class of 1961. Harry was a tackle, playing for the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II. For college, Harry attended and played for the University of Memphis.

Steve Shull: NHS Class of 1976. Steve was a linebacker and one of three captains for the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII. For college, Steve attended and played for College of William and Mary.

According to the NFL, only 36 schools across the country out of 2000 honored had four or more players in the Super Bowl.

Go Skins!

I graduated with Steve Shull and was there when Matt Bahr was there kicking.
Nice job by the NFL.

Iron M -

Very cool.

Chris was there in 1969 when I was a sophomore (we did have a great kicking game that year, for sure). And soccer was already a big sport back then (at Neshaminy) because of Chris' Dad, Walter, playing on the 1948 Olympic team and then coaching at Frankford/Temple and helping out at Neshaminy and also because of the great Hal Heffelfinger who coached the 'Skins soccer teams from 1967 to 1995 - I think those were his years - as he turned out many super teams and several state champions too (as I recall).

Interesting story was that Ed Romanowski was the regular kicker in '68 (kicking the "old" way - straight on) and suffered an injury. Head coach Jack Swartz, being a progressive sort, didn't miss the fact that guys like Pete Gogalak were changing the kicking game. With his work cut out for him it was over to the soccer team to cull through the kids where he finds/selects Chris and there you go ( a star was born).

I should add too that I'm very glad Coach Swartz made that effort for in 1969 we opened against another bruising Dick Bedesem coached Bishop Egan squad (ha -- I was a maniacal 5' 11", 170 lb. "bomb squadder" in that game). And as so many of those Egan contests were back then, it was a nailbiter with the headlines in the Saturday Courier Times summing it up:

"Sroba, Bahr Rally 'Skins Past Egan, 27-24"
Thank you Steve Sroba and thank you Chris Bahr!

Go Skins!
My Alma Mater, Whitehall, has 2 guys representing 6 Super Bowl rings. Matt Millen won 4 playing for the Raiders, 49ers and Redskins. Dan Koppen won 2 with the Patriots as starting center.

North Penn just added one to the list of locals with Brandon McManus nailing a few FGs this past Sunday.

Matt Millen - there's a stud.
