In the best game of the year in the Valley, Nazareth knocked Emmaus from the unbeatens in a match up of Pennlive top 10 teams in the state. The game ended with Emmaus at the Nazareth 13, but unable to get a final play off before the buzzer.

Nazareth trailed 7-3 at halftime, but scored touchdowns on their opening two drives of the second half to take control. Emmaus scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to cut it to a one score game. Emmaus got stopped on fourth down at the Nazareth 22 with five minutes to play, and Nazareth drove down to hit a field goal to give themselves some breathing room for the last Emmaus drive. Nazareth also got an interception in the end zone just before halftime.

It is very likely that these two will see each other again in a playoff game - the top tier seems to be Nazareth, Emmaus, and Freedom.

Great game tonight. I still say Nazareth has the best coaching staff in the Valley.

Tom is really good - probably the best offensive scheme guy in the Valley. The over the last twenty years or so is you’re probably in good hands if you hire a Lafayette alum as your head coach.

And as good as he’s been, Nazareth really turned into a contender when they added Scott Byrd as the offensive and defensive line coach. Made them a more complete program and got their physicality caught up with their passing game. Wonder what’s been happening at his old school?
