I'm from the complete opposite of the state so I only know what I read in the papers and on boards like this, but I saw that Montour knocked off the Quips by 1 point over the weekend. Is this as big of an upset as it appears to an outsider? Is Montour legit? Any reason to worry about the Quips?

I've seen both play. Both are solid teams. Neither are as good as they were last year - look test and athletically on the field. Not really a surprise unless you give Aliquippa a few points for the name.

There is no reason to worry about either - both figure to go deep in 4A WPIAL playoffs. Quips still have best player in Hayes.

Part of a trend out here. There are no teams that seem to be close to what they were 2-3 and certainly 4-5-6 years ago. Very down year IMO.

worst Aliquippa team in years

down recruiting year despite them finally being called out for it, which is why they won't allow Mike White to talk to them anymore lol

I agree with this. The kid from CV is non-descript. The CB will all the offers that transffered from PCC really doesn't show up much. Maybe teams don't pass against him. But I don't see him on O at all.

A solid tough team that isn't afraid of them can beat them - don't need over the top talent this year. See Montour.

Does Mars have a chance? What does K do next year with his son leaving? I know people speculated him moving into college ranks again, but I can’t imagine he’s a really hot commodity after this run.

To be clear, I do think he’s a great coach.

No, I don't think they have a chance. They are still very poor tacklers in space and besides the Hein kid, they have no real playmakers on offense for the big stage. Coach K's son is talented, but I would only classify him as a "good HS RB." Its really incredible how few good skill players they have.

I've heard a ton of stuff both ways on this. I am leaning toward thinking he will quit. (I've heard good sources about the rumors mentioned in the other thread but can't believe it...) He does have another kid in HS at Mars so you never know. I don't think there is any way he goes anywhere besides of P4 school (Pitt/PSU/WVU) because the salary differential would be way too much. He's gotta be a 25+ year teacher at NH making north of 100k.

On top of this, his son is going to play in college so he may want to watch him.

But, ya, the story was there 1-9 before he got there, to 6-5, to 10-3 and a win over Central Valley, to what will likely be a 5-6 season.

That makes sense New. I’m assuming the rumors can’t be anything substantial, considering he is still coaching. Is that right?

I can’t imagine a P4 school hiring as anything more than an analyst (similar to his previous role at Pitt) at this point. Maybe I’m wrong. Also, coaching Fri nights at the HS level would be better to watch his son on Sat afternoons in college.

I don't know if it would get you fired as a HS football coach - I don't think - but it depends on a lot - even depends on if true, which I am not sure. Like 2020, I do not want to say anything more except its not football related.

I agree with you regarding being able to watch his son play though - wouldn't be able to do that if at the college level.

getting back to the thread topic- imo the "rematch" of these teams, will be set up in D7 playoff bracket- winner will be strong- and i think Montour is the "real deal." Often overlooked- stable coaching staff sometimes tips the scales- great coach and stable system at Montour- they are legit, and this may take them far. I don't know inside details- but with Aliquippa- a new coach and lots of new players this year- these changes may have affected the Quips. Two losses in reg season? Prob been many years since that happened!

Tikey Hayes has been injured, that played a big part in them losing two games

though I still say they are nowhere near as strong as recent teams

Hayes seemed pretty good vs. Montour - 314 yards on 22 carries.
