McKinney, TX HS to build a $63 Million Dollar Stadium

Call me crazy, but a well to do school district, like say a Central Bucks, should have a 12,000 capacity stadium. I would hope it doesn't have a $63 million price tag. But come District play-off time, District 1 should have a reliable stadium that can support a healthy fan turnout. Man, I can remember going to the AAAA District Championship at William Tennet in 08? North Penn vs. Neshaminy, it's a nice stadium, but it didn't come close to handling the crowd. Souderton and Plymouth Whitemarsh are nice stadiums, but not so much for District championships!

Totally agree Aragorn. To be honest, the best turf facilities in SE PA are Downingtown and Coatesville, but they are not centrally located. Council Rock is nice, but no one wants to deal with that certain person in charge.

I wish Villanova would step up once in a while for the good of local HS Football.

I agree with the Villanova site. They used to host the Phila. Catholic League playoffs years ago and most people thought it was a great location. It would be great for District 1 and District 12.

Relayer,
Don't hold your breath on that one brother!!

Nova's rental charges are the envy of all the area loansharks, and they cut no one a break!

SJP-Malvern Prep discontinued their series there for the above reason..... and these two schools are not scratching for money.

btw.... do you think this WAR (Wakeman, Anderson, Rabin) is going to go beyond discussion and get off the ground?

Just to be clear on this one....the "rental charge" is primarily made up of the cost of 10 Radnor Police officers that are required by Radnor township for traffic and crowd control. And of course they get paid overtime. The cost is something ridiculous like $15,000. Back when VU used to host a lot of games, this charge was not there. Then Radnor worked a contract for VU hoops games and extended it to cover ALL sporting events at the stadium/Pavillion. Once high schools look at that tab, they are forced to go elsewhere.

Wonder if it's too late to change professions??.....Seems like the Radnor police dept. is the place to be !!

I always get annoyed every time I drive by Villanova's stadium because of the amount they want for a high school game, but I never knew it was going to the Radnor PD. There were some great Catholic league title games there. In the distant past if anyone can go back over 40 years and possibly remember the St. James/Bishop Kendrick final in 72, I remember the teams, and setting being the perfect venue for something like this.

I know Heinz wants a small fortune for the WPIAL title games but I'm sure that is watered down in the end because there were four games being played. If District 1 had that same scenario, I'm sure Villanova's cost would most likely be more reasonable in the long run.

My feeling on a good setting is a venue where both bleacher sides are very close to the same capacity. PW is a nice setting but if each side could hold about 1,000 more people that would suffice. To me the best overall venue is Souderton and Coatesville (for both capacity and parking) although neither is anywhere near centrally located.

I was also at that Saint James / Bishop Kenrick final great game . also many mny others including McDevitts first PCL title in 1986. I believe back in those years Villanova used guard services instead of Radnor police except for a few police for traffic control on rt.30 Guards were much less expensive .
