Head coach Matt a Evancho submitted his resignation at Saucon Valley today, on the heels of the best season is school history.

The release says he wants to spend more time with his family (he has young children) after nine years as a head coach. In this era of wall to wall football seasons, that's totally understandable and a lot to ask on young families.

The conspiracy theorist in me sees this in combination with the Steve Shiffert rumblings at Easton. Evancho is an Easton alum who played on some excellent teams in the early 1990s, then walked on and lettered at Penn State before successful runs as a coordinator at Wilson and head coach at SV. He also lives in Easton still. Entirely possible there's a back room deal here, maybe with 2016 being Shiffert's last season and Evancho riding in after a year off? I realize this is just message board rumor mongering, but the pieces in their face make sense.

Or maybe he wants the Ridley job?

It is always interesting when a football coach resigns to "spend more time with my family." I don't believe them one bit. To many times I've heard that refrain, only to have them show up elsewhere.

Rover:

Long commute from Easton to Folsom!! But I think Easton/ridley have similar histories, community interest etc. Could work.

LOL

My old man grew up in Delaware County and more than once has referred to Ridley as "Easton South". It's certainly one of the programs around the state I think of as a kindred spirit and find myself pulling for.

EPC, on one hand i roll my eyes, but on the other, I totally get it. It is a ton of work and time away from your family for $7,894 (plus the $400 performance bonus for going to the state tournament). After nine years running the show, I get the desire to see your kids grow up.

I heard Belichick wants the Ridley job.

Rover,
Saw the article on line, thought the same thing. Aren't the folks signing the on line petition demanding an outsider though?

I take outsider to mean not a current assistant. Which I think is a prudent hiring strategy if and when Shiffert walks away, as I don't think there is a real hot shot, up and coming coach on staff. Their "star" assistants if such a thing exists in high school, are in their 60s and likely to retire with Steve.

Evancho is an alum, but certainly has outside experience and exposure to a bunch of different coaches and styles. In any "who's going to be the next coach" conversation I've had with people, he's on the list (and one of the few alums who gets high marks across the board).
