There was no pre or post game coverage of the city all star football game this year by the city newspapers. I found this strange . Any thoughts as to why ?

Maybe there's just not much interest. How many were at the game? From Rick O'Brien's photos, there didn't seem to be many. Obviously, O'Brien was there, but his editor must have decided the space could be better used.

Has the game ever had deep roots in Philly? I've lived out of the area for most of the last few decades (so I may well be wrong), but my sense is that there's never been a whole lot of interest in it.

There was a decent crowd for an all star game .many of the citys top players played . I just don't get O brien or carter not devoting something to these kids .

But O'Brien was there and tweeted a fair bit about the game. It must have been his editor who didn't run a story.

Because Ted Silary retired...

Bingo....

And is it still called the Daily News City AS Game? If so, then it's not really Rick's story.

Furthermore, the game has seen better days. Way too many penalties, some chippy play, and the game didn't end so nicely with the Pub scoring that last TD.

Also, significant talent gap between the teams if you asked me.

Most of the better players for the Catholic League do not play anymore. I was surprised Russo was playing. The Non-pubs cannot get anyone to step up and coach besides Devlin.

There was a time when it was considered a big deal to play in this game. That time has passed.

Also, the Pub has 28 teams to choose from, while the NP has about 10, with a few of them only sending 1-2 players each.

I agree that it was a big deal at one time. The lack of media coverage is partly responsible IMO. Hell a friend of mine who follows HS football didn't even know they played the game last week.
