7 of the 12 semifinal games were blow outs with SCA beating NLehi 56-14, Aliq defeating Jersey 41-16, ICS topping Haven 41-16, PTraf over Xter 49-14, Wyo winning 42-6 over Neumann, Lebo doing SC 49-28 and SJP handling GV 49-13.

Despite coming into these games with a combined 83-13 record and multiple conference, district and inter-district crowns, school record win levels, FBS-FCS-Div 1-2 players, etc, some seem willing to indict what amounts to over half the state as not playing good football. That’s a little harsh reviewing who those teams beat to get to the semifinal, which would indict another majority segment of the state. Blowouts happen but shouldn’t reverberate throughout respective conferences and districts on the strength of one game. Sometimes you get it handed to you. The reasons are myriad. Ok, off my soap box

There should be better games with a trip to the State Championship game on the line. The amount of blowouts in Eastern and Western Finals is a little alarming. Makes for less interest if there's a perception that some teams have no shot (aka Strath Haven, Nor Lehigh) Seems as if some teams in the state are just heads and shoulders about the others.

Maybe PIAA should consider a non-boundary championship bracket and allow boundary schools a chance to opt in if they want. Something to at least break up what has become a pretty predictable playoff...

Is there a rule in place that certain districts must play all conference games? Reason behind my question is that certain teams play within their conference the entire season and if the conference is down that’s not a true measuring sticks. There should be a mandatory minimum on non conference games to help eliminate some of these blowouts.

But most of the blowouts, by far, in the PIAA playoffs have not been of boundary schools by non-boundary schools. In fact, several non-boundary schools have been the ones being blown out.

I was simply throwing out an idea to spice things up. I saw the scores and understand that Aliquippa and Southern Columbia had huge blowout wins and are boundary schools.

PIAA could create a "6AA" bracket of the top 8 in the state and put everyone else in 6A, 5A, 4A, etc. based on their enrollment size. Anything to spice things up in PA.

If you took the top 8 in the state prior to the playoffs starting regardless of enrollment, boundaries, whatever, here's what the 6AA bracket would look like:

1.Prep
2. LaSalle
3. Imhotep
4. Garnet Valley
5. Archbishop Wood
6. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg)
7. Mt. Lebanon
8. Coatesville

Really, I'm "not a fan" of blowout football and would rather see more chances for competitive games in November/December...
