I haven't posted on here in awhile but somebody needed to talk about the great career Jack has had at Haverford High.

Last night Jack became Haverford High School's all time leader in career passing yards, breaking Steve Joachim's (Haverford '70, Temple '74 & Maxwell Award winner) record that had held for 45 years. In his 3 years as starting QB, he's posted a 23-8 record (only losing to Downingtown West (2), Garnet Valley (2), Coatesville (1 seed AAAA), Springfield (1 seed AAA), Council Rock North, and Penncrest, all playoff teams). He also added a win over Upper Darby his freshman year in the Thanksgiving finale for the 2012 Fords. He would have started his freshman year too if Haverford didn't already have All-Delco QB Eddie Durkin leading them to a playoff appearance that season. But when Durkin went down with a broken hand in the playoff game, Donaghy looked very poised throwing a TD as a freshman in a AAAA playoff game (and then leading them to the win over UD on Thanksgiving).

The Fords will go to the playoffs in 3 of Donaghy's 4 seasons at Haverford (missing it by one spot his Soph year) and they have finished 2nd in the Central League every season. In the 20 seasons prior to Donaghy, Haverford had just one playoff appearance and they spent a lot of years at the bottom of the Central League standings.

Jack is having his best season so far in his senior campaign as the Fords have won 7 in a row since their opening night blemish to D1 power Dowingtown West. Not only has he been tearing up opposing defenses with his arm, but he's also doubled as the Fords' Kicker and Punter all season. The most impressive thing is that Jack is the ONLY returning offensive starter from last years playoff team. How many other QBs could put up the numbers he is posting with essentially last year's JV team around him?

Remarkably, last night was not the first time Donaghy has broken a Steve Joachim record. As a 4 year starter at point guard on the basketball team, Jack led the 2014 Bball Fords to the school's first state tournament appearance since Joachim's 1970 team.

Jack will go down as one of the best athletes in Haverford High history. He has a rocket for an arm and sees the field as well as any high school QB I've seen. He has all of the intangibles you want in a QB/PG and he's been the leader of every team he's ever suited up for. Jack works even harder in the classroom than he does on the athletic fields, which has led to some of the top academic schools in the country recruiting him. It's a shame he's not a few inches taller or else he'd garner serious Division 1 interest. Even without the protypical collegiate QB height, I know Jack will make any college coach who takes a flier on him look like a smart man.

Knowing the competitor Jack is, I know he will not be satisfied with just another District Playoff appearance and Central League runner up. He wants the school's first ever playoff win and their first Central League Title since 1995. But knowing the student of the game Jack is, I know all he's thinking about is Friday's game at Ridley in what will be the biggest game of the year for both teams. Ridley needs a win to make the District playoffs, Haverford needs a win to keep their Central League title hopes alive and lock in a playoff spot. I believe Haverford should get in even with a loss, but they won't want to leave that up to the computers. Should be a great game Friday night on Morton Ave.

Central League Standings:
Haverford 5-0 (7-1)
Upper Darby 5-0 (7-1)
Garnet Valley 5-1 (6-2)
Ridley 4-2 (6-2)
Marple 4-2 (6-2)
Springfield 3-3 (4-4)
Conestoga 3-3 (4-4)
Radnor 2-4 (4-4)
Penncrest 2-4 (2-6)
Lower Merion 1-5 (2-6)
Strath Haven 1-5 (1-7)
Harriton 0-6 (0-8)

Hav: any thoughts on the league forcing the thanksgiving day game into October next year as part of the regular season schedule ? My understanding is since it's a central league contest, they can do that and are trying to figure out a way to do it without totally hissing off both sides. But as Haverford and upper Darby continue to improve , for the good of the league this team needs to be played sooner. Not only is there the risk of having co-champions since they may not play , but other central league teams lose valuable bonus points since the game is not played earlier .

By the way , the Fords do not have a playoff berth wrapped up yet, despite what you say in your post. While highly unlikely , they could lose to both Ridley and lm and not make the playoffs. Be aware of the karma gods

Believe me, I know the Fords will be the underdog Friday night against Ridley and I think Ridley will beat them. Very tough to win at Phil Marion field especially against a hungry Ridley team that is on a roll. However, I do think it's highly unlikely they lose to Lower Merion in the following week. I think they'd get in at 8-2 but you're right, nothing is guaranteed and I'm sure the players and coaches won't assume they have anything locked up yet.

Regarding the Thanksgiving Day game vs. Upper Darby, it's a great tradition that I would hate to see go away. The reality is that one of these teams would have to make the District 1 semis in order for the game not to be played. Both teams have had nice seasons but the odds of either team making it that far is not likely IMO. Both teams schedule other games in the gap they have in the schedule, so I'm not sure how the rest of the CL teams are missing out on playoff points. It is also my understanding that the rest of the league can force this game to be played earlier, but I really hope that doesn't happen.

This is very unlikely as I think Haverford will lose to Ridley and Upper Darby will lose to Garnet Valley, but how cool would it be if Haverford and Upper Darby were both undefeated and played for the league championship on Thanksgiving?

Nice try on giving your Fords the underdog label. They have a big win over GV while Ridley lost to them. In addition , your squad has had our number the past few years. Haverford clearly the favorite.

I do agree that I'm not expecting much from the Central League in districts. Haverford got throttled by downigtown , GV by a two loss Unionvilee team, upper Darby by state college. Those are the same type of teams they would likely play in districts, and I just don't think the league is playing at that level

Good luck Friday.

I've been sandbagging for a couple of years now. I just wanted to add what a great kid Jack is, how poised he is at the hs level, and what a great leader he is. Haverford20 was spot on

Dtown West really took it too Haverford, but the Fords were able to move the ball a little bit before the wheels fell off. They were unable to cover the deep ball which blew the game wide open. The junior FB was a real handful for the Whippets to tackle.

Ridley will shut him down haverford is overrated
D1 fanatic- you may not know me but I I have VERY good knowledge of the Fords program. Are they at a SOL power level? No. But they're a damn good Central League team right now, and are doing the best with what they have. And what they have is a damn good QB who is playing with all new offensive starters. That offense took time to get it together. So, over rated is an Unknowledgeable and ridiculous accusation. Have you seen them play? Have you seen Ridley play this year? I'm inclined to believe you are basing opinions on past performance. I hope you don't play the stock market....:)

Welcome everyone,im your dam tour guide Arnie. Im about to take you through at fully functional power plant. So please no one wonder off the dam tour, and feel free to take all the dam pictures you want..now..are there any dam questions?? 2. yea! where can i get some dam bait

Ridley has given up 20 points or more 5 times in 8 games ( which may be a modern day record). So this is not a Ralph Batty defense. In addition, Haverford has moved the ball on everyone, including Downingtown. So Im thinking Haverford will score and Ridley will not be able to shut them down.

On the other side of the ball, Ridleys offense has come to life, and their Junior QB and Junior RB look way more comfortable now that they have 8 games under their belt. I also think Haverford can be run on as well. So I hope Ridley sticks to the ground game to move the ball and the clock and keep Haverfords offense off the field. I do not see this one as a low scoring defensive struggle.

Speed, great stat. It looks like the record is 6x in a season. Here are all the seasons it has happened at least 5x:

SEASON....GAMES ALLOWING 20+
============================
1953............6
1997............6
1954............5
1995............5

2002............5

JK: Good research. My stats were strictly off the top of my head. But with at least 3 difficulty games left ( Haverford, stoga, interboro), maybe they do get the record, and its not one id like to see broken

#11 for Haverford has quietly had an impact on virtually every game this season, and will continue to make contributions tonight.

Jack Donaghy went 16-17 for 227 yards and a TD

I don't think many would say he was "shut down " :)

Still can't believe he's not getting recruited more heavily

Big win for the Fords in a hard fought game by both teams

Hav: no sane poster thought he was going to be shut down. Although he did miss one pass.

Good win and good luck in playoffs.

Jack broke another Joachim record last night as he eclipsed 2,000 passing yards on the year and broke Joachim's single-season passing record at Haverford. Donaghy now has thrown for 4,611 yards in his career and has a chance to become the second QB in DELCO history to throw for over 5,000 yards with (at least) two games left for the Fords.

Donaghy threw for 3 TDs and ran for another before Coach Gal pulled the starters halfway through the second quarter in a rout of undermanned Lower Merion. The Fords improve to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the Central League.

Upper Darby pulled off a wild comeback over Garnet Valley last night to also remain undefeated in the Central League. This means for the first time ever, the historic Thanksgiving morning showdown between neighborhood rivals Haverford and Upper Darby will double as the Central League Championship. Should be an unbelievable atmosphere on that Thursday morning at Haverford.

First, both teams will try to make a little noise in the District Playoffs. Haverford will host 9-1 Perkiomen Valley while Upper Darby will host either Quakertown or Council Rock North. Do either teams have a chance or will the Central League be shut out in the playoffs?

jK. It's now 7 games over 20 points allowed - an ignominious record. No guarantee they hold Interboro under 20 either considering they aren't even practicing for the game.
