I'll return when private schools have their own state champs

I'm done with PIAA football. Give me a break with the players from New Jersey playing in a pa state championship game. Ridiculous. High school football to me is about neighborhoods vs neighborhoods. That's what separates high school football from college and pros. You can't get that anywhere else and right now, that's been ruined in PA. Also, I'm 100% convinced now that the decline in overall public school talent is due to the private schools entering the PIAA playoffs. There's no doubt that if I was a quality football player in Bensalem looking for a college scholarship, have a chance to play for a state championship and my parents could afford it, I'd be going to Archbishop Wood. Hmmm, let me see...go to Bensalem and go 0-10 and struggle to get noticed, or go to high profile Archbishop Wood where I know I'm gonna be well coached, play for a championship, and get a solid education??? Tough choice...

People have every right to do that, but don't tell me for a second that it's not a monumental advantage for private. But, separate them now into their own category of fairness. I ain't paying attention to PIAA football until that happens. Going on strike with a few other people I know.

If you're someone who claims there's no difference, you've got a serious motivational reasoning problem.

Bye...

So long.

Seriously, NOW this is a problem? Where were all the complaints as since 1988 when the PIAA first started state playoffs that Bishop McDevitt, Allentown Central Catholic, Erie Cathedral Prep, Pitt Central Catholic, North Catholic, Bethlehem Catholic, Lancaster Catholic and Lansdale Catholic won PIAA titles?

It seems people are now up in arms since 2008 when Philly joined the PIAA because LaSalle, St Joe's Prep, AB Wood, and West Catholic are now winning titles.

Nowaremann, to your point about part of the decline of public school talent being due to private schools ... look at the other thread about Bensalem. They should have 3 or 4 D1 recruits in their system right now. Instead they go 0-10 and lose their coach. Now all their kids lose.

You're exactly right about them having every right, but the people who claim there is no advantage is what I can't stomach about it.

I'm out too! It's been real.

Things go I cycles you never know how things will go several years ago the SOL ruled PA footba then the WPIAL had a run and now the PCL in five years who knows the Lehigh valley might be the cock of the walk

It's down to a seven-point lead right now, so what are you talking about? Your "strike" is causing you to miss a great game.

What is New Jersey, some communist state? Get a grip on reality; the drive from Mt. Laurel to St. Joe Prep is 20 minutes or less.

SJP looks like they're out of gas.

I didn't go to Bensalem. But in another thread another poster said Bensalem is not a good school. Perhaps the way for public to compete is to improve academically?

I think that is part of Wood's advantage.

keep in mind if your players come from a 20 mile raduis the population is much more dense in se.pa. then other area. Meaning more players too choose from.

Yeah, when you and I are dead and gone, the record books will read "St. Joseph's Prep".

Nice try though. As a reminder, here's what the record book will really show:

2014 Class A: Bishop Guilfoyle (District 6)
2014 Class AA: So Fayette (District 7)
2014 Class AAA: Archbishop Wood (District 12)
2014 Class AAAA: St Joseph's Prep (District 12)

As an exercise though why don't you grab the PIAA championship archive and review all the years and tell us all who should be the state champs for each year. Darn, Catholic schools. ;-)

I'll be sure to pin it up in my den...another place no one will see it.

Exactly! People lose perspective on history.

On another note..

NJ, I think this is better than the politoboard! That said, why WOULD anyone live in Jersey?

Re: On another note..

Don't let the door hit you on your way out. You need some perspective. It's high school football played by kids. Geez, relax.

I'll say it again. But if all you need is limitless boundaries then why isn't every private school dominating. You really short-change the kids and coached who work their tails off to accomplish something as cool as a state title.

You complainers need to step away from your close-minded, short-sighted little bubble for a second. Why would anyone want to take away what we witnessed last night in that 4A final? It was terrific. So, create a watered down product with 8, 12, 20 state champions? C'mon. It's fine the way it is.

you have a short memory. Didn't beca & acc become road warriors when they got thrown out of the LVC? and recently with new league schools above LV didn't want them. Last year palisades wouldn't wrestle beca because they recruit their kids. You have a short memory.

Re: One question, ptomaselli. What high school did you attend?***n

I went to a public school...and not a great football school at that time...and I was NOT a good footballer. (My younger brother got those genes.) But I do support openness and transparency...and like that publics and privates compete together because I think it makes the best teams better...because I want a team from PA to be able to beat teams like Don Bosco.

But you didn't see the rest of the game, if we are to believe your post about not watching anymore.

fb107, that is the best point made in this thread so far!

You're bitching about SJP; did you watch the game the kids from PR played? Oh, I forgot, PR is a private school who recruits a 3 state area.

How sad you didn't post a tribute to that squad; they deserve it!

As has been said, nice seeing you, keep your promise!

It's one thing to root against private school teams - but some people are taking it to a whole new level. I always root public because I just love the community factor and the one hit wonder stories that some of these public teams are. However, if they lose you can't take anything away from the kids on the other side, you have to show up and beat them.

At the end of the day they're all 15-18yr old kids playing a game. Some went private due to longstanding family loyalty, some did it for a better education, and let's face it - some did it for purely football reasons. The WPIAL has decent private school football programs at AAAA, AA & A. I root against them in the local playoffs but as soon as one wins the championship I'm rooting for them to bring the state crown back to District 7.

Lastly, any team that was playing football in December in the state of PA deserves a round of applause - the 16 teams remaining heading into last weekend were all great squads. Out of 580 or so schools they were the only 16 left standing. They all deserve credit for overcoming adversity, injuries, and whatever else to get that far. To quote the Joker...Why So Serious?
