Another year of Shawn Lee throwing to Coke and Cyrus behind all world OL Kevin Brown. Most nights Harrisburg will have the 4 best players on the field. I'm not super dug in with their program. My question is does Harrisburg have enough of a supporting cast to make a legitimate run? What's the defense looking like this year? I'm guessing the offense will average north of 40 points a game so most likely it just has to have a good not great D. Thanks!

They also have the RB from trinity who is committed to penn state. They are loaded.

Not sure how, but forgot that Mickens transferred in. Loaded is the right word. Are they still 6A? And what side of the bracket would they end up on if they are 6A? Can they avoid Prep until the Final?

Harrisburg is comfortably in 6A, they won't ever drop down. Unless they change the bracket this year, they come out of the West and wouldn't see SJP until the final. Their biggest issue lately has been their small roster size, which has got to make practice difficult and significantly limits their depth.

Their opener against LaSalle may be a good contest even with the amount of talent they have.Gordon takes over at LaSalle so I would expect the ball to be in the air a great deal. Lasalle also has several D-1 players to include their QB.Harrisburg with the addition of Mickens gives them some explosive options with the run or pass. Hope its a good game.

I heard that Shawn Lee, Harrisburg QB/DB, is ineligible to play this season. Definitely changes the dynamic of the LaSalle/HBG matchup.

Actually?? What’s the deal with that. I had them as my 6A favorite going into the season, especially after that stud DT from SJP was announced out for the season. This certainly changes things. I remember watching the Lee kid as a freshman against PR in week 0, had some nice poise for a young player.

5th year senior

Per Pennlive. This could go against Cougars with everyone and his mother loving them not being in the playoff picture.

Among Pennsylvania’s benchmark programs, Harrisburg High could enter the 2024 football season without its star quarterback. A PIAA hearing to determine the eligibility of dual-threat quarterback and cornerback Shawn Lee Jr., a Pitt commit, is forthcoming, according to Lee Jr.’s father and Cougars’ assistant coach.

A date and time is yet to be determined. Shawn Lee Sr. told PennLive Monday that Harrisburg submitted the appeal request following a District 3 ruling on his son’s eligibility last Tuesday via Zoom. District 3 ruled 11-0 to deny eligibility.

Lee Jr. is accused to have exceeded four years of high school football. According to the Lee family, Lee Jr. has only played three years of football, beginning at Harrisburg in 2021.
The Lee family claims he was enrolled in virtual classes in 2020 but did not play football, when the COVID-19 pandemic affected the football season. The family is seeking a hardship waiver for that year.

“In February, a couple of schools were going in and were challenging his eligibility,” said Lee Sr.
“We’re going to get in front of the PIAA. It’s a later process than we hoped, but we’re waiting for a date.
District 3 Executive Director Ron Kennedy referred all questions to Harrisburg.

Cumberland Valley athletic director Mike Craig, representing the Mid-Penn Conference, would not comment, citing the district’s policy on “closed” meetings.
Harrisburg did request the meeting be closed to media, Lee Sr. said.
“We’re just going through the process,” Harrisburg head coach Cal Everett said. “He had one hearing and has another hearing coming up. We’re going through the process, and we’ll see what happens.”

Apparently did 9th grade twice. Tough to overcome that.

Looks like there's at least a small chance SJP gets Roy back by the end of the season: https://www.inquirer.com/high-schoo...p-ohio-state-football-wrestling-20240724.html

Haven't seen a date yet (Pennlive) for hearing on Lee. Of course if he plays, they're easily one of the best teams in the state, perhaps the best. Grad a good line.
With or without Lee, we'll know early with a front-loaded schedule of LaSalle, at McDevitt, State.

I expect LaSalle with Coach Gordan to be very formidable this year. They have some very good players surrounding their D-1 QB.

I think their transfers enrolled mid-year last school year to mitigate against that. They ran track so it didn't look like a "football transfer."
Hey Robber ,do you have any updates on how Wood is progressing? West scrimmages them Saturday and they open against CB South next week. All of a sudden CB schools want a piece of them ,while for the last 10 years or so wanted no parts of them. They were terrible last year. Dave Armstrong inherited a mess and I sure hope he can turn things around. I know they dropped down to 4A this year.

Hard to fault O'Doyle Rules football at SJP if boundary schools are skirting the transfer rules. Competitive balance just can't occur without buy-in from all boundary schools (even if non-boundary schools are pulled away from the playoff structure). It's like winning a youth baseball, soccer, lacrosse, or basketball tournament with a stacked team from all over the region playing against community squads - What did you really win?

What I heard on Wood isn’t good. I heard they won’t have enough kids to field a 9th grade team. Not sure if that’s changed as it was 6 weeks or so ago I heard that?

Heard they have terrible attendance at practice. Armstrong certainly inherited a mess but he hasn’t been able to flip the culture. And even though it’s been said that the administration has shifted their priorities to basketball, if they don’t see some obvious improvements, this will be it for Armstrong.

That’s what I heard…

They (AW) have really struggled. I know they are moving down into the smaller PCL division, but I think they may still struggle to beat a lot of those teams. I’d be surprised if they go .500. Low numbers and a lack of talent isn’t a good combination.

I hope it can be turned around, but it doesn’t sound good. I don’t think I would read too much into scrimmages (different coaches have different philosophies as to what they are trying to get out of an scrimmage), but I expect them to get blown out by CB South.

I was at the CB West/ Wood scrimmage today. Just a scrimmage ,but I thought Wood looked much better than last year. QB throws a nice ball and they have solid RB. West did not utilize RB Clemmens much.

Good to hear Lil. As I said, hopefully it gets turned around. I wasn’t there, but it sounds like today was a step in the right direction. Next week will tell a clearer story.

Next week is not going to be competitive unless South makes a ton of mistakes. I’ve never seen West have a shorter leash on their starters than they did today. I agree that Wood looked better than last year but I don’t think they can line up with South. They also picked up 3 unsportsmanlike / late hits.

Without Lee this could be a significant LS win, 21-7, more. Hbg is rebuilding their lines with some experience but loaded with good O skill and a reasonable vet D with 7-8 back. Backfield will be good with Ewell and the transfer from Trinity, Mickens.
Don't know about LS's offensive capacity but Hbg could struggle with one-dimensional rush attack. They'll put someone talented back there but Lee is impossible to replace with over 3000 ry/py just last year.

Lee is apparently at Milford Academy where he’ll play behind this line:

LT 6'6"325 Dan Grein
LG 6'4"290 Kevin Roemhild
C 6'4"330Steph Geronimo
RG 6'4"325 Syair Smallwood
RT 6'8"360 TonyCruz

As I said before, on paper this looks like the year LS can seriously challenge SJP. It’ll depend if LS OL and defense can come along. They certainly have the skill to do it.

I think most in the Philadelphia area knew LS was gonna handle Harrisburg. Maybe not in this fashion but no surprise.

I think prep vs LS will be closer. I didn’t see anything to make me feel like it would be a tight game though. Up front on both side prep still dominates. Without Lee burg didn’t stand a chance.

That would also be my concern in picking LS to get over the hump that is SJP. I’m not sure they have the lines to do it, but time will tell.
