I was at the Garnet Valley - Downingtown East scrimmage and they looked pretty good. As soon as you look at the GV team the first thing your obviously gonna notice is OL Ted Field (6-7, 315)...however they got some playmakers in this senior class. 1st year QB Matt Hamby (SR) doesnt have the superior athleticism that most GV QB's have had in the past, but he is very smart reading the option and can make intermediate throws. GV switched to an under center team this year on offense, going away from the spread they have previously ran. WR Bobby Clayton (SR) is their best pass catcher (6'0 180) and WR Jacob Buttermore (5'11 185) will provide some explosive plays on offense. However the offense will be completely run through RB Derrick West (SR) (5'10 215), who rushed for 1000 yards last year as a Junior. Expect him to be the workhorse of GV like Razzano, Pyle, and others have been in the past.
Defense, GV is losing a lot of starters and will not be as strong as last year. DE Tim Bradley (SR) (6'3 220) is probably the best player on this unit and will be in the backfield all game and wreck havoc. On the other side, DE Brendan Granahan (6'3 215) (SR) will be provide a nice addition and should be a player to watch.
Ricci is still the head coach and running things, but hes taken a little step back in his role and starting to let some of the coaches do their own thing. However I didnt notice any difference with him he still seems like the same coach to me
I expect 9 wins and a shot at the Central League championship. A deep playoff run is not likely. Some of the GV squads were better in years past
