I saw none of the game but I received a few reports in the first half that it looked like it was sleepy time for the 'Skins early on.

I hope Iron Marshall was there and adds something positive.

PS Are they just too bored?

Wasn't it Charlton Heston, in "Midway", who told his son (a fighter jockey in the US Navy) "you better watch your six before some hotshot pilot flames your ass."

Wow! What an awfully officiated game. I usually say don’t put yourself in a position to lose because of a bad call by the officials, and to their credit, The Skins didn’t. In fact they didn’t let multiple bad calls beat them. Neshaminy managed to get by a surprisingly tough Bensalem team who was aided by the officials throughout the game. Final score Neshaminy 35, Bensalem 22.

Neshaminy scored first, but thanks to poor tackling (again!), Bensalem managed to answer but blew a two point conversion try. Neshaminy 7 – 6. After a shanked Neshaminy punt, Bensalem caught a break when they threw a pass into the flat that sailed over the receiving back’s head. The back, hearing no whistle, scooped the ball up and raced untouched into the endzone from about 50 yards out while the Redskin defense stood and watched. The pass was easily two yards forward and very clearly seen by the fans who were seated perpendicular to the play, including me and should have been ruled incomplete. The refs never blew the whistle stopping play, and the Bensalem back made a heads up play. While this was a horrendous call/non-call by the refs, Neshaminy’s defense gets some of the blame too as players are told (and hopefully, Wilmont and French teach this) to play through the whistle. No whistle, make a tackle! The officials gave Bensalem 7 points on the play, but Neshaminy has to take some of the blame for not playing through the whistle.

Stunned, and still not tackling, Neshaminy found itself down after another score (due to hard running by RB Malcom Carey, who is a load to tackle, and the elusive QB Drasaun Moore, who left the game in the third with an injury) late in the first half 19-7. With about 2 minutes to go, the Neshaminy offense did what the Neshaminy offense does, quickly score a TD to trail at the half 19-14. That score must have raised eyebrows around the SOL.

The second half was almost all Neshaminy, as they scored 3 TDs and only gave up a 32 yard field goal. Mason Jones looked sharp throwing the ball and Mike Garlick and Zach Tredway made some big catches. Wil Dogba really picked it up running the ball in the second half before getting injured midway through the 4th. Bensalem blocked a PATwhen the blocker was about three steps offside and no call, he arrived at the kicker a split second after the holder Tredway got the ball. He was waaay offside.

Early in the 4th quarter Tredway made a nice first down going 15-20 yards with the ball, slipping tackles. Somehow the officials managed to call a push in the back and a personal foul. The calls was made very late as a Neshaminy player was walking quietly to the sideline. He may have chirped at the official originally, but was grabbed by a teammate and sent to the sidelines. The flag was tossed after the player had walked at least ten steps away. I actually thought they were calling a Bensalem player who was pushing the Neshaminy player way after the whistle. Weird. The first down was nullified, and the Skins were penalized about 30 yards. I really don’t know what happened, maybe the calls were legit, but it seemed like Neshaminy was getting a lot of penalties and they are usually very disciplined. It was a full moon though.

Well enough of my bellyaching. I was very impressed with Bensalem’s line and Malcom Carey. He was probably the hardest running RB the Skins have faced this year. He has a huge heart.

The Skins have quite a few injuries, FB/LB Hayden Rooney is playing with a cast on his right hand and wrist. Starting WR, Sophomore Corey Joyce, who is the fourth member of that explosive receiving group and is an excellent receiver who also backs up Tredway at safety has missed several games with a pretty bad concussion. Starting DE Luke Hitchen was knocked out in the first series with a knee injury. Hitchen, a sophomore is the D Line’s best pass rusher and has really come on. Adding to that, backup QB Billy Clark was injured in practice this week and is wearing a sling, as is third string RB Ryan O’Connor, who also backs up at QB and DB. Hopefully the injured players are able to get healthy by the playoffs.

Missed all of the 1st quarter because of long line at the ticket booth.

Can't stress how poor the tackling has been all year and tonight was no exception. Also, they give up the edge to easily. They don't tackle in waves. It's very very frustrating to watch. I'm sure it's frustrating for the coaching staff, too.

Offense played well, it's just weird to see Neshaminy pass all over the field at will.
Will Dogba may not be the biggest, quickest, fastest back around, but he is a wizard at setting up and using his blockers. He's fun to watch.

Hopefully, we didn't get to banged up tonight. We need to be as healthy as possible for Districts. ( I'm guessing even if we lost the next 2 games, 8 - 2 would get us in )

I don't know that losing is so much the worry as are injuries. And thinking you own the world (and strutting around like a peacock) is a great set-up for the other guy to knock your ---- in the dirt.

Now that I've had a chance to watch most of the game on the WBCB video stream I might say tackling is too strong a word, 71, - it looked more like flag football and grabbing at jerseys. And you are right that there is no "swarm" to the ball carrier plus they let people out of trouble when they have them - there isn't the wrap-up and finish. The D still gets me nervous.

Maybe they were flat after last week's excitement. They better get over that (that walking around somewhat lethargic).

And the offense was just sorta lazing about in the first half before they looked like they got into it right before halftime.

Still, they did look okay in the second half but these lackadaisical "starts" to games won't work down the road. And bottom line is it's great the offense is averaging 38 but if anybody is thinking that'll pull you out when you hit another high-powered scoring team - well, that's not a good formula.

I can also see why Bensalem is so much improved this season. That fullback is a load with the ball. Their QB is also an athlete, no doubt. And it was clear the Owls came out to play some ball -- they looked enthusiastic and ready to do what was necessary. Good show by that group (I guess two more wins and a 6-4 record could get them into the playoffs).

Anyway, since the Red and Blue fellows are my boys - and I love them and their 8-0 effort - I have to end with:

Go 'Skins!!

Can you underline that? This was evident from the opening kickoff when the outside lane tacklers were sucked into the middle of the field. Then add poor tackling on top of that!

I think you are going a bit over board with the officials. Bensalem has been a great first half team all season. Neshaminy was coming off a huge statement win. The skins are easily the best coached team in that division and lower bucks area year in and year out. The owl's first TD did come on a bit of a fluke play. But lets be honest, this owls team has serious talent. In my opinion they have the best athletes Neshaminy has seen all yr minus RC. They are also very solid upfront on both sides of the ball. But they lack any type of depth and in the 2nd half that has showed all season long. Keith Parish may be the best player in Bucks County no one hears anything about. I think the Owls staff deserves all the credit in the world for this turn around. But at some point 2nd half adjustments need to be addressed.

Penn Wood up 9-6 (Final 20-9) L
@Pennsbury up 14-0 (Final 28-21 OT) L
@CB West up 21-0 (Final 28-21) W
Abington down 7-3 (Final 21-11) L
Neshaminy up 19-14 (Final 35-22) L

I hope they can manage to get to 6-4 and avoid NP.

Yes, Bensalem played a great game. Teams have been able to run on Neshaminy all year, especially in the first half. Neshaminy's kickoff coverage and punting has been bad all year. McDonald has improved the punting, but he is a terrific place kicker and really is not a punter. He stepped up to replace the starting two way lineman who had been punting early in the year. The Skins have given up long KO returns in many games.

Carey, as I said, has a huge heart, and is a tremendous power runner. He looked like a bigger Michael Riddick (DTW) to me.

As for Bensalem having the best athletes Neshaminy has faced it's year, the Skins faced Roman Catholic, who I think had tremendous athletes in number 10 and Anthony Butler in particular. They were probably the fastest team Neshaminy has played. Pennridge's Jagger Hartshorn was the most damaging running QB they faced,, and George Reid of Abington ( Temple recruit) is probably the best athlete they faced, though they shut him out.

As for the officiating, they cost Neshaminy at least 8 points with bad calls, one of which stunned the Skins early and may have taken the wind out of their sails for a few drives. I was right on the line where Moore released that swing pass. That was clearly a pass a good two yards up field. All of the players on both teams just stood and watched. Parrish picked up the ball, delayed a second started to jog up field and realized there was no whistle and then went into high gear. Good for him. He did the right thing. Neshaminy didn't play to thw whistle, but it was a horrible call by the officials. And that extra point block was way off sides. Additionally, there was a 45 y ard turn around on a first down catch by Treadway that was penalized for a hit to the back and a pf. I didn't see tgat, I did see a Bensalem player in a scuffle aroundd Jones. That player was pushed from behind by the fb, who went off the field yapping. The flag was thrown really late, and all of that happened after the play was over. Maybe I missed something while I watched the play.

Coach Hugh,

Wow. Very thorough analysis. Hope you're not neglecting the wife and kids too much to break down film. Keep up the good work!
