In a tune up for Michigan vs Washington........
Sunday, the FCS Championship game, South Dakota St (14-0) vs Montana (13-1). Weird seeing this one without North Dakota State in there! Different level but good football tho SDSU is a big favorite and defending champ.

Way too long in between Semis and Final and to play on Sunday at 2:00 eastern on the final week of NFL is just ridiculous. Playing in a soccer stadium isn't ideal either. It's a shame for those programs.

The non D1-A levels are dominated by the programs that don't have quality local programs from the next level up. Exceptions to every rule, but the below is generally true.

D1-AA: Teams that win regularly do not have quality D1-A programs in their general area. Exception to this could be JMU when they were D1-AA, but VA Tech and VA haven't been consistently good in years.
D2: Teams that win regularly do not have quality D1-AA programs in their general area. D2 final wasn't close, but it was fun watching a complex running offense win the championship. Love option teams.
D3: Teams that win regularly do not have quality D2 programs in their general area. D3 final was an absolute nailbiter ending in an upset of the #1 squad and recent dominant program.

D3 is skewed HEAVILY North and East - once you're in the western half of the country it's virtually non-existent. Upper Mid-West has powerhouses and Texas has some great teams, but west of them there are two conferences for the rest of the western half of the country. PA athletes are in a great position, having the PSAC in their backyard as well as top D3 programs all around them or within a half-day's drive.
