Both Judge and Ryan had big time wins this past weekend versus two decent D-1 opponents . I'm wondering if either of these two have the ability to take the PCL Red division. That Division has to be considered one of the toughest in the state this year. How would you like to compete against St. Joe prep, LaSalle,Wood,Ryan ,Judge and Roman. OMG that is a murderous grouping.

Tough one, that is for sure. I can tell you Roman looks pretty good, yet they can probably hope for no less than 6 losses this year.
That division is SJP's to lose in my opinion, although Wood could have a say in that.

I think SJP/AW are still the top two. LaSalle probably a peg or two below. It sucks that they lost I. Jones. I think Brett will get the current QB to above respectable levels, but I thought Jones was going to be one of the more dynamic players in SE PA.

Roman, Judge, and Ryan should all be more competitive with the teams at the top. They need to stay healthy and play clean football, but they are all going to be solid clubs. I have all six PCL Red teams in my Top 25 at the moment.

Burrs5, what's your take on the upcoming West Catholic vs. Roman Catholic game this weekend?

I think it has a solid chance of being a good, entertaining game. Today, I give Roman the edge in probably being bigger on OL and a bit deeper across the board. If West commits 18 penalties and turns it over 4 more times like last week, then RC might win comfortably. Definitely have to clean that up. If the Burrs play a clean game then it can stay close. They can be good on the outside, while keeping you honest with the running game if focused. Typically, the Burrs improve as year moves on. Roman showed excellent balance on offense and they have the ability to spread the rock around. Defensively, they probably need to clean some things up as Neshaminy went for 400+ yards, but the 'Skins weren't a cupcake either. Turnovers are important in any game, but should be a major factor in this one. I'm driving down Saturday morning and heading right back afterwards, so no interest in seeing a clunker :)

Did they really commit 18 penalties ?

Actualky, it was 19-3. Here's the breakdown I sent the coaches afterwards.

Total:
WC 19-152
PG 3-32
Breakdown:
Off: 12-95
Off ex pt: 2-15
Def: 4-40
Def ex pt: 1-2

Holding: 7
Illegal block: 1
Offsides-O: 4
Delay: 2
Offsides-D: 3
Face mask: 1
Personal foul: 1

IMO, most of the judgement calls were warranted. Maybe, a couple of cheapies. I don't think refs in general have a good understanding of what's a hold and what's not with WRs down field. Part of the reason is that this type of blocking is being used more and more in today's game and they're not used to it.

Again, I full know that WC will commit penalties, but the issue I have is that Pottsgrove ran 59 offensive plays. It was week one, only one scrimmage, and hot as balls out. Yet, PG didn't hold or illegal block a team once that they couldn't keep out of its backfield for long stretches. Yea, I find this hard to believe.

I heard Ryan had like 19-20 on them up at Quakertown. In fact, I watched that game and on the first 14 plays there were 9 penalties called. C'mon fellas. It suggests to me that they're looking to call stuff and not just going with the obvious.

Burrs5.. I have a WC Q to run past you (my son played in the PCL 13,14 and 15) ... WC had a really good Qb two years ago.. I forget his name but I same him play a couple of times.. thougt he did a really nice job.. anyway.. I thought he had a younger brother that was working his way up the ladder... do you know if he also at WC? thanks..

You must be thinking of Antwain McCollum. He started in 14-13-12 for West. However, I don't think he had a brother.

The refs sometimes think the game is about them and when the penalties are that much in favor of the home team you really have to question their intentions. We have all witnessed this crap over the years .

It's the first game for some refs first game ever so you don't know who is watching.i never wore stripes but I do watch football and if you watch the eagles every preseason there are a lot of nonsense calls so relax and let's move on

It's not so much the calls, but the disparity of the calls. Especially in week one when every team is far from perfect.

We all know if you're looking hard enough that you can find a hold just about on every play. So, the difference should never be 8-0 in jusgement calls, especially against the better team. That just refuse to believe that Pottsgrove was flawless on 59 offensive plays.
