Good game, nice win for the Rovers. They have won 9 of the last 11 meetings and now lead the series 64-42-5.

Stateliners only had 4 turnovers all year - then 3 today. Rovers had a strip sack near midfield with 2:00 left and a 14-14 tie, and Izzy Selassie scored on a sweep play with 45 seconds left. QB Scott Poulson was the MVP, throwing for 196 yards and running for another 60, including a 40 yard scramble that set up an Easton TD pass with 1 second left in the first half to go into the break tied at 7. Poulson made a great back shoulder throw to Herres for the score.

All in all, very disappointing year for Easton, but always good to beat those guys. On to wrestling.

It was a nice win. Phillipsburg is a good team, though playing without 1,000 yard rusher Joe Green (out for the year with ankle surgery) clearly hurt their offense. Big difference in the game was Pburg had no answer for Easton's 6'5 and 6'3 receivers. Easton's front four also dominated in the trenches defensively.

Not sure what the future holds for the Dawgs. They bring back three starters on the offense like (center and both tackles) their third receiver and their fullback. On the other side of the ball, they return a defensive tackle, a very good middle linebacker, a corner and both safeties. There are a couple talented kids that I know of coming up (watch out for Nahjee Adams in the coming years) but I'm not sure about the upcoming classes as a whole.

But maybe a big right turnover is needed. They brought back 18 starters this year and improved to 8-5 from 7-6, lost at home to Nazareth for the first time in school history, gave up a combined 100 points to Parkland, got blown out by an equally disappointing Emmaus team, and got to sit home and watch the best kid from their junior high program since Shane Simpson run for 180 yards in a state playoff game wearing a Becahi jersey last night. Tavion clearly made the right choice.

There were highlights. Jake Herres had the best year ever by an Easton receiver (67 catches, 1,180 yards, 14 TDs all school records) and Scott Poulson is the best pure thrower at QB since 2001. It was the biggest commitment to the passing game I've seen in 30 years.l (which got them 1 more win?). Patrick Shupp looks like a really good left tackle and had the best year I've seen from a sophomore lineman. And being the 1 in Pburg's loss column is beautiful.

Ohio State is 15-2 in this century against Michigan. Not much of an on field rivalry?
Wait a minute. You're comparing a college rivalry where both schools recruit athletes, to a high school rivalry where one school has double the enrollment of the other school? No wonder Easton loves this "rivalry."
The OSU/UM rivalry goes back and forth. Michigan leads the all time series, 58-49-6. The Easton/P-burg rivalry on field, is over
It's like Whitehall-Parkland. When the two schools were roughly the same size, Whitehall won 14 in a row. As Parkland has gotten bigger and bigger, while Whitehall is at 1974 numbers, the series has tilted Parkland's way. Now, with Parkland two and a half times larger, Parkland wins 8 out of 10. Numbers matter, especially when the big school is dead serious about the sport. In fans' minds it's still a rivalry. On the field, not so much.
