District 1 Brackets

Initial thoughts: Rough draw for Dtown West. Springford won the game, but PV might have the better matchup. Quakertown-CB East playing in back to back weeks is interesting. Unionville won't be favored by anyone even though they're the higher seed.

Interesting that Truman beating Norristown yesterday moved Upper Dublin to the other side of the bracket and thus avoiding Neshaminy. I like UD getting to the semis again.

A North Penn - Downingtown East rematch round 2 a real possibility.

I think I like DWest vs Upper Dublin and North Penn vs Neshaminy on the other side. North Penn DEast will be a great rematch. I could see me being wrong and DEast would win again. However, I see Coach Beck making the corrections and doing a better job against the DEast run game or maybe just slowing down enough so that West CAN GET 30 touches and out gun DEast at Kottmeyer. West has to be able to get a ton of touches for North Penn to win. He played much faster than any player on the field the first time around.

I hope DEast doesn't look past PW and I wouldn't just write North Penn win over Unionville. I remember Unionville going up to PBerry and taking them out a few years back. I agree West was the best weapon on the field in the regular season game. The biggest points I remember from that game was DEast fumbling away 14 points in the first 5 minutes. Take those turnovers away and the final is 28-10. Additionally once the end of the game rolled around NP was physical beat up and a little gassed as many of there players went both ways. DEast offense isn't very flashy but they can beat you running up the middle w a power game, throw to both TEs or QB sneak w a spread offense. The game will come down how well NPs defense plays throughout the whole game.

As far as DWest they have some big bodies in 54 and 74 on d but they still give up the run. After seeing how well they played (bend but don't break... Only surrendering 21 points) against DEast I expect to be a great game.

Unionville is no where near as good a team as that team you mentioned. Clark will keep Unionville in the game for a half, but I expect the Knights to be at Kottmeyer the following week. DEast will pummel PW. No upset there. If DEast beats NPenn, I see them in the district final. Should be a fun rematch.

IA - I'm looking forward to hearing of the first round upset(s). Say a DEast, UDub or a NP going down. Last year it was NP going down to Henderson and a few years back DEast losing to Wissy. We should have some great games in the later rounds. None of us know how good SF or U Dub are? BTW .. That Unionville team is senior heavy w some experienced good talent w Nash, Boon and Clark to name a few so it wouldn't surprise me

Chesmont, I hear what your saying about seniors, but you have seen them play and lets just say their seeding is higher than it should be. If they don't eek out a win against Rustin, they don't get in. Add to it N.Penn got physically man handled by Henderson last year in the first rd. I don't expect it will happen 2 yrs in a row. Saw Upper Dublin play Pennsbury last year and Upper Dublin gave them all they could handle for 3.5 quarters. I believe Upper Dublin is good enough to make it to the district final and win it. If your looking for an upset, I'm going with Neshaminy. Think they are peeking at the right time. Almost beat Pennsbury and N Penn in back to back weeks. Not easy to do. As long as they are not beat up. I wouldn't know that. Maybe someone on Heartbreak Ridge can enlighten me before I go all in on the Skins.

Chesmont League -

I understand that the 'Skins are in good shape and none of their key guys is suffering from anything more than the customary and usual stuff you'd expect after ten weeks of ball.

As to how they'll do, I'd say they did step up their play over the last few weeks and just about came out of it with two wins -- and I hope they keep it up. It does appear the line play is working well and Dogba is starting to stretch it out a bit more as he picked up just over three hundred yards in those two games with an average of just about seven yards a clip which was an improvement over his stats through the first eight games -- and for the year he has over thirteen hundred yards and sixteen scores.

Passing wise I'd say that they deserve a C maybe C+ and if that pops up a level it will be tough to keep them from scoring a bunch. And they do have that capability and they shown bits and pieces of it all year long and I'm thinking one of these days Jones will get hot and then look out.

Defensively they really throttled Pennsbury and they also kept NP to just two scores for forty-seven minutes and that side of the ball has improved all year long.

We'll see soon enough.

If you want to see points, I would assume Council Rock North and Upper Darby would be the game to see. Council Rock North has arguably the best Qb in the state and Upper Darby has a dynamic running back. Both defenses have given up points this year so I'm expecting a shoot out. Have not been to Upper Darby in awhile but if they didn't get turf it is easily the worst playing surface in all of district one. Expected rain on Tuesday could make the field even worse. Might be the place to be.

All good points above. I wanted to mention that this upcoming weekend at Kottmeyer is going to be booked. East hosts PW Friday night and Saturday morning through 4:30 a huge band competition is happening followed by the West - Pberry game. i heard the West admin gave strict orders that the bands will done by 430 so let's hope that happens so we can see the game at 7.

I was at UD Friday night and it was an awesome game to watch. But there still is no turf and most of the field is dirt. Having a home playoff game may force the admin to act sooner on turfing the field.UD vs CRN could very well be a shoutout.

Yeah I was always worried that a player would roll their ankle and break it on the pot marks on the field. Thank God we haven't had a week because when the field hardens the divots become even more dangerous. With so many games that are played there a year I'm surprised its never become a major issue.

@PA2CAMoleskinner - Dogba is ok? He looked very hobbled the other night. I hope he's good to know. He's a key to their success in this second season. Jones has to look at someone other than Tredway. That's getting too predictable. The Skins big men are coming to life on both sides of the ball.

If the field is that bad maybe the district should step in. I saw some of the video stream Friday and it was a brown field. Back on '03 NP had home field throughout but played every game at Wissahickon due to their field not being playable. There's another district who should get turf. The field was in bad shape for Neshaminy last week.

Reluctant -

I have not heard of anything troubling as to Dogba. And I know you're talking about his slight gimp that seemed to show on Friday. Whatever "happened" came at the end of the long run he had just before the half and which got them down around the ten yard line I think - he went out for the rest of the half but at that point there was not much time on the clock -- maybe half a minute. He ended that game with just about two hundred yards and he earned a hundred and forty of that in the first half. So although he may have been dinged he carried his weight during the second half.

I do agree that you wouldn't want him out, though, and we are all glad he's young, resilient, healthy and strong. And he's shown he's durable with nearly two hundred fifty carries in the ten game regular season.

As to passing Jones is averaging fifteen tosses a game with just about half on the mark. The aerial game is also dropping just about one hundred yards and a TD into the "per game" bank account -- he's had five picks. I previously went through those numbers and it would be very nice to see them improve a bit as they go forward. He has shown a very nice arm capability but it has been a little less consistent than was expected. I add that he has run for just about five hundred yards which was not on the agenda when the season began -- plus four scores for his work -- so he's responsible for some fifteen hundred yards himself and twelve total scores. So he's carrying his weight.

I also agree that the linemen have really settled in.

I don't think Upper Dublin has a cakewalk over Garnet Valley. They run and old fashioned wing tee from a new fangled no huddle approach and shuttle in players at a very fast rate. If you haven't seen the offense before or the no huddle , it's very difficult to prepare for , especially if you do not have the person el to do it practice e.

That being said , GV defense is suspect so UD maybe be good enough to outscore them. I just don't see this as a typical 3/14 matchup.

If they can't pass UD will mercy rule them. Expect UD to put 8 in the box with man coverage on the outside and send the house on most plays. They did this most of the year so no need to practice much. But none of the teams they played could pass. Same as the Pennsberry semi last year. No Huddle is no issue as UD is not very deep and has few subs to get in.

The team that beats UD this year will need to have a balanced attack and throw for 200 yards.

It's not the NCAA tournament. The committee won't let you in because you played well down the stretch. You have to perform well and gain points all year long.
