For the first time since winning the East Penn Conference in 1992, Allentown Dieruff is 4-0 to start the season. The Huskies threw a 30 yard touchdown on 4th and 11
with just over a minute left last night to beat East Stroudsburg North 20-14. Certainly not one of the best teams in the state or even the league. But it is a tremendous start and turnaround for Dave Lutte in one of the toughest jobs in the state.
For those around the state, Dieruff is one of the Allentown public schools that has fallen on incredibly hard times, including a 39 game losing streak last decade. They last finished over .500 in 2002, and the ‘92 team was their last conference champion, going 9-2 and losing in the D11 final in a rematch with William Allen (an electric all Allentown final). Dieruff also played for a D11 title in 1996, their last playoff trip. Dieruff is the alma mater of NFL hall of famer Andre Reed, who was on the last undefeated Dieruff team in 1979.
