This is a topic no one will want to consider, but it's going to have to be addressed by schools, teams, and leagues very soon.

With cases rising and much evidence that the delta variant is affecting more young people, sometimes quite severely, will players be encouraged or required to be vaccinated? I wouldn't worry much at all about transmission between players during a game, but I would certainly worry if my son were going to a team camp for a week and the kid in the next bed was unvaccinated. I wouldn't worry so much about my vaccinated son--though I'd worry some--but since even fully vaccinated people can be very effective vectors of this variant, he could easily transit the virus to a younger sibling.

Also, I'm not sure how schools that mandate masks are going to say it's OK for, say, players on a team bus to go unmasked.

Why would you worry about your son if he was vaccinated? Isnt your second son vaccinated? Never understood why people are so concerned if they themselves are vaxed.
Serious Qs..

In my case this is hypothetical since my kids are now in their 20s. But if I had a son who was 15 and vaccinated and a child who was 10 and therefore unable to be vaccinated I would worry my son could transmit the delta picked up from an unvaccinated classmate / teammate. What we've learned from the Provincetown data is that while vaccinated people have excellent protection against the Delta they can still easily transmit it--which wasn't the case with earlier variants.

To be clear, I don't want to be an alarmist and am really hopeful we can have an almost normal school year and fall season, but I think some precautions from the get-go will reduce the chances of a big problem later on.

Unfortunately I believe this should be on the political board since half the country INSISTS on politicizing the topic. Follow the science, wear a mask, don't wear a mask, wear two masks. Enough with listening to egotistical fools.

Take precautions and stop listing to talking heads who have a whole other agenda. What in hell did our ancestors do before there were so many telling them what to think, what to do and how to do it?

Here's my perspective... our government conducted these experiments here in this country. They were screwing with a disease that only animals could get/ transmit and seeing if they could make it so humans were susceptible to it.. Obama said NO get it out of here. So the CDC and Fauci funded the Chinese to do these experiments. It leaked out.
If the government came clean, I may believe them and get vaccinated. They're not, so like millions of others I'm not getting vaxed.

Stalker,

I have zero interest in a political discussion on here. This is not the place to argue about the origins of the pandemic, what Obama or Trump did or didn't do, or whether Fauci is a good or bad.

I notice, though, that schools the country over are dealing with a reality (increasing cases, especially among the young, a variant with more transmissibility, etc.) that is causing some to require masks and more places such as restaurants, theatres, and various workplaces are requiring proof of vaccination. What I haven't noticed is any discussion of the issues for high school football, which as we all know begins this month. Is it really possible that nobody is thinking of what should be done? Obviously the NFL has done a whole lot of thinking and planning about it all.

In the NFL a player basically owned by the league. High schools are run by elected officials.
Now we get to the NCAA who doesn't have much power today.
I can't help but think that a states vaccine policy will effect where a high school player chooses to play D1 football. SEC and ACC said play ball. The BIG cancelled / drug its feet and were forced to have a season. They thought everyone would follow their lead. It didn't happen. Just let this get political one more time and let's see what happens. Vax required at some universities already. Doesn't seem to be hurting Rutgers, but time will tell.
