How good is Ridley, really they played in a weak central league that saw three terrible teams with losing records make the 5A playoffs and now they have to go to coatsville for a good old fashion beating. Wood inherited a senior heavy team that was decker's kids, I'm not giving any credit to decker because he sunk that ship, but we need to see what happens next year when he has to reload the team. It's only a matter of time when the good old boys network crumbles ( Sydnor the AD and Wood). For everyone that things wood was a good college coach does not know squat, when he was at widener he once again inherited good teams that coach zwann built before he went to West Chester and after that group of kids left the downfall began. News flash for the Ridley faithful the ship decker sunk has duct tape on it, but we all know what happens when the duct tape gets wet, it comes apart and falls off so just be patient because it's is coming to a head real fast . Now let the real raiders win this battle.

10-1 is good in any league and Coatesville respects the "Green Mystique". Red Raiders better being playing at the top of their game on both sides if they want to beat tradition rich Ridley. Hope the Red Raiders can play w these guys and good luck to both teams. As a fan you hope for two great programs to meet in a game of this significance.

Wow...an axe to grind hey? So I won't repeat what my D3-Cumberland Valley friends had to say about Coatesville after the game. It wasn't too many years ago that North Penn thought Ridley was soft too on that very field.

Hey Stalk - What did your Cumberland Valley (and Delco) friends have to say about Coatesville?

Good luck to Ridley and to Coatesville in their game. My interest in that contest has just jumped up a boatload.

Who says the playoffs aren't fun?

Hey Mole - Same sincerity back to your Skins and Garnet Valley. Playoff are fun and especially on this board!

My interest in Ridley is real because we did get smacked by them, 27-7, in 2007 (that's was in the semi-final of the D1 playoffs that year) and you never forget that stuff. Course, we returned the favor in 2008 when we stopped the "Green Meanies" 31-3 in Langhorne.

Then as to Coatesville, it was 2012 when the 7-3 'Skins stumbled into the playoffs and met them in the semi-finals (and prior to that game we were 2-0 against the "Red" -- both close games -- so we felt good about ourselves from an historical perspective).

Anyway, Schmidt drove those guys hard that season (and to get as far as they did); however, the Red Raiders brought the curtain down on any fancy thoughts we were entertaining (and I still can't write the score). Seriously, though, our guys were playing a bit above their pay grade that campaign and Coatesville was just too much (we did make it interesting through early in the third-quarter but then the wheels came off).

Now in 2013, that was a different story ...

Anyway, go Green Raiders and go Red Raiders!!

How is CV doing now Stalk? Seems like both programs are going in opposite directions. Honestly believe at that time of year CV would have pooped on anyone in D1 including North Penn. CV, Central Dauphin and State College are in a different class than any program in District 1. Anybody that thinks differently is kidding themselves. Kinda like anyone in D1 will be able to give St. Joes a game if they are playing at their best. Its not going to happen. Period!!!

I (I think Relayer was there too) attended that 2008 game in Neshaminy as I dated a Ridley girl for 5 years. Neshaminy just overwhelmed Ridley that night. Ridley beat Coatesville in Ortega's first year so I'm sure he has not forgotten. I too remember when Neshaminy came back and stole a game against my Red Raiders. I think we paid you guys back the state championship loss year. Anyways would be nice if the Red Raiders met up w the Skins but we are young so I'm not expecting a long run. Good luck.

The word I got from CD guys (after CD-CV) was CV's surprise how easy they could run, poor gap responsibility (CV's Wing -T); an overall undisciplined group. It was early and little point bringing negatives to the board, dissing their efforts. I'm certain it would be a different game today.

The Red Raiders are still young, but they were extremely young at the beginning of the season. I don't think anyone would be looking forward to playing them now.

Ignore Chicken Little, he's had an ax to grind since February. This is the same guy who predicted a "disaster" and called for the "panic button". Regardless of what happens on Friday I don't think a 10 win season that included a Central League title and playoff win is a time to be chirping about how the ship is sinking. Go back in your hole and maybe wait for a 6-7 win season before you start pounding your chest about how you predicted the pending apocalypse.

I know for a fact that wood is desperately trying to get Ridley guys on his staff but it's not working out to well...

this has disaster written all over it

Valero is not going to be there at all...

this is a total disaster...

Things are taking a turn for the worse...

what a sad time for such a great program...

Just horrible at this point....Horrible

so that seems to me he had zero people in place for a staff and the scrambling was beginning...

all you Ridley faithful the panic button has been pushed and the nightmare has just begun. I'm actually enjoying this fiasco...

These are the facts, also a weak staff equals a weak team......Godspeed

Stalk - What did the Ridley guys say about Coatesville's effort against Cumberland Valley? Come on....we know you have a strong opinion.

Boy do I remember that Ridley/North Penn game a while ago at Coatesville. They manhandled North Penn. They were and always have been a tough group when thrown in the den.

Agreed Kitty. I suspect Coatesville will have its hands full w Ridleys D, Hopefully Ortega and Catafino can get these kids ready.

Ha ha........probably didn't give it much thought beyond the obvious. I've lived a few blocks behind Ridley High for some years now since coming down from Harrisburg but not a Ridley guy per se.
Go to some games but no inside dope what they might be saying (if anything) about Coatesville's loss to Cumberland Valley. Ridley is a class act with nothing but respect for their opponents and I'm sure could care less what CV did to Coatesville in game 2 except to learn from it.

Todd Smith at Hun School would be a great choice. He wins everywhere he goes, even with inferior talent. Took a traditional losing program at West Windsor Plainsboro South to several conference championships, was coach of the year several times in Mercer county. Left WWPS to become OC at Hopewell, turned around an offense that scored only 1 TD the previous year into a scoring machine. The set all new records at Hopewell. Neshaminy contacted him to replace Frederick and set up an interview (he never actually applied, they contacted him). On the day of his interview, Hun offered him the job. He gets to recruit from all over the country and Canada and has at least 4 full ride scholarships to give. His DT Fred Hanssard is a 5 star recruiting. He has lost i believe 1 game in 2 years there. He would be a perfect fit at SJP, whom he is well aware of. At Wwp, his team scrimmage Don Bosco and got crushed, I think he would like to return the favor. Hun plays small prep school football, Bosco large.

IAdelco, I think Coach Whitehead screwed up using 2 Qbs too often; Bachman and Plessinger. The loss at SC was a coin toss game like games with CD so a 20-16 loss (first) wasn't a surprise. State is a good football!
The 15-10 loss at Lower Dauphin was one of the major upsets in the Commonwealth seeing LD (4-6) lost to Middletown 27-7, CD East 38-14, Cedar Cliff 35-12 and Susquehanna 26-7. Running Back/Star LB Josiah Quigley missed LD and that hurt but credit Falcons, formerly a small quad, for bringing it.
About Harrisburg, losing 35-14, they are rejuvenated with Micah Parson's (6-3, 235) transferring in from Central Dauphin and Damion Barber (6-4, 250) healthy, both at DE and unstoppable. Next level will see them at Penn State. They are a different team with Barber healthy and Parson's there. Look for them to roll in the postseason.
After the LD loss, CV showed class bouncing back in a 19-12 win vs CD East who is improved with McDevitt transfer RB Mike Jones. But the Harrisburg loss was a weird one, with a number of momentum swings masking the competitive nature of the game.
Bottom line: It's CV and they WILL BE there in the postseason surprising none of us natives if the win districts. CD is the best team and I hope they advance but CV has owned them (4 straight) and Wilson is Wilson!
**** Watch dark horse Warwick.

To me, and I may be wrong, the key is if the Ridley offense has success running the ball. They have to control the clock to keep Coatesville's offense off the field. I wouldn't assume they'll get blown out. They are a resilient program.

I agree with Steve. If Ridley is going to win the game, it's going to be because their offense controls the ball and the clock and keeps the Coatesville offense off the field. Ridley has a good sound defense and their stats are very impressive. However, Marple and Springfield both were able to score points on Ridley. Coatesville's offense is similar in appearance to Marple that it is thread but 10 times more explosive in that they have speed all over the field. To many possessions against that offense will eventually doom Ridley since I believe they will have to use their skill on offense to cover on defense for most of the game. Hence, Ridley's offense will have to be their best defense on Friday night in order to win the game. It will be interesting to see what Coatesville's defense does against Ridley's triple option attack. Coatesville's defense, which is overshadowed by its offense in my opinion, is very good. They also have speed as you listen to coach after coach in the paper talk about the quickness of the defensive line. No one looks at the fact that, after the Cumberland Valley game, they have mercy ruled or been a touchdown away from mercy ruling all but W.C East by the half. By looking at the boxes, most teams score a touchdown or two on the defense after the mercy rule is in effect. Hence, the fact that they are giving up 14 points a game maybe misleading. They did give up 40 to Cumberland Valley. Is this Ridley team comparable to Cumberland Valley? I guess we will find out Friday night. This game and North Penn/Springford should be the best 6A games. The other two should eventually become mismatches.

Ridley will have to find a way to block #53 if they hope to move the ball on the ground. If they're forced to throw, that secondary will eat them alive.

IA:

Ridley only gave up 14 points to Marple's high powered spread offense and 14 points to Springfield in regulation ( one TD on a tipped pass in the end zone). Im not comparing either of those teams to Coatesville but I think mast teams would like their chances if they could hold them to 14 points.

I guess the point I was trying to make is Ridley gave up points against those offenses that are somewhat comparable to Coatesville and feasted on the other offenses in the league. However, shutouts are difficult to come by in any game so obviously their defense is very good. Just wondering out loud if the strength or lack there of in the Central might come into play.
