It’s crazy what the current staff has accomplished their in what seems like a short amount of time. Has a team at the highest class ever turned into a powerhouse this quick and sending kids to the next level like this?
Kind of a fun question. Kasperowicz went 5-5 in his first year, then went to the state finals in year 2 and hasn't looked back (obviously winning a title in 2017).
The first one that came to mind for me was Parkland after hiring Rich Snisack. The Trojans went 34-61 from 1985-1993, then hired Snisack away that offseason. He went 6-5 and 7-4 in his first two seasons, then went 13-1 and made the Eastern Final in year three (lost to CB West). D11 finals in 1997, another Eastern Final in 1998. Had his best team in 1999 (spent the whole year ranked #2 behind CB West), but got shocked in districts. Finally broke through and won a state title (under Snisack's successor Rob Melosky) in 2002, and were 81-18 from '96-'03. Sent Tim Massaquoi to Michigan, Austin Scott to Penn State, Adam Atiyeh to Pitt, plus a bunch of players to good FCS schools (first one that comes to mind is Sean Bleiler was a captain of the Delaware team that won a national championship). They've obviously been able to sustain it under transitions of power, with Snisack yielding the program to Melosky when he became a principal (and later superintendent), then Jim Morgans taking over when Melosky had a bad year, then Tim Moncman taking the reigns when Morgans retired.
Liberty under Moncman had a similar switch flip. In the decade before hiring Moncman, they were 51-62. First three years were 6-5, 5-5, 6-4, then was 10-2 with a D11 finals, 13-2 and a state finals trip, 14-2 and a state finals trip, 10-2 and a district final, then 15-1 and state champs. Sent Andres Morales to Rutgers, Dan Persa to Northwestern, Ahkeem Smith and Levi Brown to Temple, Anthony Gonzalez and Devin Street to Pitt, Jarrod West to Syracuse, Brendan Beal to Florida, and a bunch of FCS kids (I remember them having a pipeline to New Hampshire). Tim left the next year and things fell off of a cliff.
North Penn was the other one I wanted to check. 58-64 from 1986-1996, then hired Mike Pettine Jr., and have been 247-61 since - they hadn't won 8 games in a season since the early 1980s, then starting with the 1997 they've only won fewer than 8 games twice (not counting this year). Coming off of a 5-7 season before he got hired, they went 8-3,3, 9-3, 11-2 and a D1 final, 8-4, 9-3, then hired beck and went 10-3 and went to their first Eastern Final, then went 15-0 and won the whole thing the next year. Seven eastern finals, two state finals, and a state title in that run. Haven't sent tons of kids to major programs. Chris McKelvy to Penn State, Hikee Johnson to Virginia, Kevin Akins to Boston College, Deanco Oliver to Syracuse, Kyle Johns to West Virginia are the ones that jump to mind, but there are probably others.
North Allegheny was 40-35 in the six years before Art Walker, then went 9-3 in his first season, a WPIAL final in his second, and then state titles in years five and seven. He had a similar effect at Pittsburgh Central Catholic - they were 33-35 in the seven years before Walker, went 4-6 his first year, 9-3 his second, 11-2 with a WPIAL finals in year 3, state finals in year 5, then a state title in year 6. He's sent a bunch of kids to FBS programs in both places.
