Former Qb Jurkovec (Notre Dame transfer) starting at BC and looking GOOD behind a line that maybe rivals Notre Dame's OL. Book looking very sharp too at 10-10 1st qtr. And with PRHS taking on Peters Twp today for the WPAIL championship it's a big day for them with so much going on at many levels.

It’s crazy what the current staff has accomplished their in what seems like a short amount of time. Has a team at the highest class ever turned into a powerhouse this quick and sending kids to the next level like this? I’d be interested to know. Also worth noting that mike Katic is a starting Guard for Indiana (stud big linemen from 17 state champion team and 18 wpial champion team)

I started watching when P-R had just moved up to 4A. Had heard they were good in the early 2000's, but they looked pretty average or worse until Coach K took over. 2013 was the bridge year and in 2014 when they decided to go to the spread and DiNucci was a senior with a great group, it really took off. A little bit of a down year in 2016 when Jurkovec got hurt, but every other year has been solid. I think they have been in the WPIAL semis or better 7 straight years and 4 championships with 3 completely different groups of kids.

Jacky, you may no better than I, but Coach K, the OL coach and the QB coach have been there since the beginning, and most of the rest came on board in 2014. Staff continuity.

The two other things I noticeare how the offense has changed its personality over the years. Pure RPO spread with DiNucci, Spread with QB run with Jurkovec, Spread-to-run in 2018 with all those OL, and this year spread with about 1000 formations all done at a very fast pace. The second thing is the defense. When Coach K took that over it got a lot better. Last night I don't think Peters had positive rushing yards. And Peters was 8-0...

Hope they can keep this thing rolling.

Kind of a fun question. Kasperowicz went 5-5 in his first year, then went to the state finals in year 2 and hasn't looked back (obviously winning a title in 2017).

The first one that came to mind for me was Parkland after hiring Rich Snisack. The Trojans went 34-61 from 1985-1993, then hired Snisack away that offseason. He went 6-5 and 7-4 in his first two seasons, then went 13-1 and made the Eastern Final in year three (lost to CB West). D11 finals in 1997, another Eastern Final in 1998. Had his best team in 1999 (spent the whole year ranked #2 behind CB West), but got shocked in districts. Finally broke through and won a state title (under Snisack's successor Rob Melosky) in 2002, and were 81-18 from '96-'03. Sent Tim Massaquoi to Michigan, Austin Scott to Penn State, Adam Atiyeh to Pitt, plus a bunch of players to good FCS schools (first one that comes to mind is Sean Bleiler was a captain of the Delaware team that won a national championship). They've obviously been able to sustain it under transitions of power, with Snisack yielding the program to Melosky when he became a principal (and later superintendent), then Jim Morgans taking over when Melosky had a bad year, then Tim Moncman taking the reigns when Morgans retired.

Liberty under Moncman had a similar switch flip. In the decade before hiring Moncman, they were 51-62. First three years were 6-5, 5-5, 6-4, then was 10-2 with a D11 finals, 13-2 and a state finals trip, 14-2 and a state finals trip, 10-2 and a district final, then 15-1 and state champs. Sent Andres Morales to Rutgers, Dan Persa to Northwestern, Ahkeem Smith and Levi Brown to Temple, Anthony Gonzalez and Devin Street to Pitt, Jarrod West to Syracuse, Brendan Beal to Florida, and a bunch of FCS kids (I remember them having a pipeline to New Hampshire). Tim left the next year and things fell off of a cliff.
North Penn was the other one I wanted to check. 58-64 from 1986-1996, then hired Mike Pettine Jr., and have been 247-61 since - they hadn't won 8 games in a season since the early 1980s, then starting with the 1997 they've only won fewer than 8 games twice (not counting this year). Coming off of a 5-7 season before he got hired, they went 8-3,3, 9-3, 11-2 and a D1 final, 8-4, 9-3, then hired beck and went 10-3 and went to their first Eastern Final, then went 15-0 and won the whole thing the next year. Seven eastern finals, two state finals, and a state title in that run. Haven't sent tons of kids to major programs. Chris McKelvy to Penn State, Hikee Johnson to Virginia, Kevin Akins to Boston College, Deanco Oliver to Syracuse, Kyle Johns to West Virginia are the ones that jump to mind, but there are probably others.

North Allegheny was 40-35 in the six years before Art Walker, then went 9-3 in his first season, a WPIAL final in his second, and then state titles in years five and seven. He had a similar effect at Pittsburgh Central Catholic - they were 33-35 in the seven years before Walker, went 4-6 his first year, 9-3 his second, 11-2 with a WPIAL finals in year 3, state finals in year 5, then a state title in year 6. He's sent a bunch of kids to FBS programs in both places.

New, with K's established success and now the opportunity to further enhance the rez (5A title), do you think PR can retain his services given the lucrative reality of college football? I believe you alluded to this in an earlier post.
About game with Mifflin. Mifflin is a serious football team, size, speed etc that may be a more developed passing game away from beating PR tho I don't think its in the bag for Rams as GM has put in time, plays to develop their passing game. At the risk but not intention of offending Upper Dublin and Cathedral, I think this is the final.

Stalk, Coach K has a daughter in HS, an 8th grade son that is a pretty good QB and I think another MS daughter. However, I think he would be a prime candidate to go to a college as a position coach. I believe some of his staff would be interested in that too. If P-R ends up winning it all this year, if he decides not to go, I think he'll be at P-R for at least 4 more years. I do not know what his long term career plans are but you need to strike while the iron is hot.

The thing that makes it really interesting is Pitt's very poor season. I don't think Pitt can afford to buy Narduzzi out, but bringing back a "Pitt Man" that has had success locally and could be a great recruiter makes some sense. For Coach K, he'd be able to stay home and not up-root his family and still get to see his son play, if not coach him.

I need to look at GM more. I only know they have a great RB, a good FB and a stud TE.

Ok New, thanks. I hope they have him for a while to develop the kids and keep on keeping on with good football. A move to Pitt would be a fit geographically which is likely a big factor in a decision like this. Kids make all the difference. I had no trouble taking a promo to open Philadelphia to Fed-Ex's 727 program back in the day since there were no kids or wife at the time. Throw that into the formula and it's a whole new ballgame. I hope he hangs around for a while knowing the untold spinoff benefits to the players of a good coach/mentor and to the community having a team to be proud of.
