From a 2009 Big 33 article:
"It should be pointed out Gateway linebacker Dorian Bell and receiver-defensive back Corey Brown were ineligible to participate because they have already played in two all-star games. Under NCAA rules, a player can play in only two all-star games".

Note: The Cardinals A.Q. Shipley played in the 2004 Big 33 game so if the outcomes were flipped the streak would have also stayed alive. Patriots had no players though.
