how can somerset be playing for the easternfinal against archbishop wood if they are fifity miles west of harrisburgh and
bishop mc devitt?

It's really not east and west anymore. With so many more schools in the east, some schools/districts need to be shifted to the "left" side of the bracket. Same thing with basketball, we've seen several state championship games feature two D1 schools.

Except that Somerset is a western team playing ing the Eastern final.

...because that's where the districts 5/6/8/9 bracket fits.

The "West" side of the bracket fits District 3, 7, and 10.

It's all about balance anymore...not east vs west.

I get how the groupings work. But some are counterintuitive. When D3 was moved, it wasn't that unreasonable since the district is about as big as Rhode Island, and centrally located. D5 is well west of being centrally located.,

For whatever reason LS9er, that's the perception that exists, that district 3 is centrally located. It is not, and is in fact a lot closer to Philly than Pitt excepting it's extreme western schools that are few; Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Greencastle, etc.

Actually Harrisburg is a third of the way from Philly to Pittsburgh with a great many of the district's pop centers and teams, Lancaster, York (southeast), Reading....being to it's east,

About east - west, the powers that be can call it whatever they want while most will correctly or not, still break it down that way because it is still largely, not entirely....aligned that way!

As previously stated, its more about balance than it is about East/West.

The only consistency in terms of geography is that Districts 1 and 12 are always in the "East" while 7 and 10 are always in the "West". Other than that, the district placements are all over the board for different classifications.

AAAA
East: 1,2,4,11,12
West: 3,6,7,8,9,10

AAA
East: 1,2,4,5,6,8,9,11,12
West: 3,7,10

AA
East: 1,2,3,4,11,12
West: 5,6,8,9,7,10

A
East: 1,2,3,4,6,11,12
West: 5,7,9,10

If McDevitt wins their game Friday night, they'll only have roughly an hour ride to Chambersberg to view the Wood/Somerset game

This is so unfair ...

To the Bucks/Mont/Phila all star team.

How will they ever overcome such adversity

Burgundy got shoved in lockers in HS. Quite obvious. The also Star team will be just fine
