I read that two Wood football players have decided to take their talents to West Chester. I say 'Congrats" to those two and to ALL HS kids who have committed today. I think it's great that the kids have found the right fit for them.

My question to the philosopher FBU is "Does your WCU analogy apply to Wood kids, or only to SJP?" Put more simply, is the return on investment for a Wood education to WCU acceptable in your view?

Yes it does - The rule is........your college should cost more than your high school
more simply put if you over pay for high school and you only get into a state school, you just feel foolish!
Is there anything else I can set you straight on? If so, just HMU!

I might argue the opposite. If you go to an expensive private school and decide to take on massive debt to go to college, maybe you didn't learn all that much in high school.

So would you opine that parents who decide to send their son to a public high school who later ends up suiting up for the Golden Rams in college made a more wise choice than the parents of a PCL kid who plays for WCU also?

I do argue the opposite of your point...
If you over paid for private high school, you'd hope your grades were good enough to get a ton of merit based scholarship money from college or maybe even get into a private college? Right? but if you over paid and went to "average Joe's" and only got into a state college - wow that would be very disappointing and Dad should / would feel foolish!

I'd KNOW "not opine" (what a "DB" - you sound like No Rocks the big NERD) that a public school family would've saved enough to send their kid to a private college. But probably spent it on booze and cigarettes.
Now asked me about the home school kid - such a "DB" are you!
At least you didn't underline, bold and highlight your statement like the other average Joe nerd and for that you get credit!

I am a proud WCU grad who went to a highly regarded public school (Council Rock).

IMO the better teachers are in the public school system, and the answer to why is easy ($$$$). I have taught in both the Archdiocese and the public school system. I was grateful for the opportunity to get my initial experience in a Catholic school. If they could actually pay their teachers I would still be there. I equate it to a lower tier Division 1 coach who excels and gets hired at a P5 school. That's exactly what I did.

Based on the educators, explain how a Wood education is better than a CR education? Granted, I will admit salaries aren't everything to everyone. The teachers I got to know in the Archdiocese where more miserable than those in the public schools. I wonder why?

interesting how once a thing is thought to be true, what a L O N G shelf life it has. E.g, my wife was of the opinion you caught hell in Catholic Schools because that's where she went and what she experienced........and that it followed that public schools were a walk in the park. WHOA NELLY....I still have scars.
Maybe not the best analogy but there are many fine public schools, despite getting less air time over the years.

This line of questioning to me reeks of 20 year old knowledge. College is so damn expensive, that who knows what is the right move anymore. Temple's applications were sky high this year not only because of the popularity the football team brought, but because it is just a good financial decision. Typically speaking....20 years ago...if I paid a high tuition I would expect scholarship money commensurate with that, and a good private college would be a sound decision. Now? Tuition at 65,000 and my kid gets a 25,000 scholarship a year....45,000 a year. Doesn't really feel like a scholarship does it. So I can't in any way make a call on a kid going to a tuition school and then hitting a psac or state school. Good football player, you can assume he is getting a cut of football money, although it is not huge. Tuition manageable, come out of WCU with a degree and football and life lessons. How can you not like that. Would it be smarter to get a 50% scholarship at a 1AA school or private D3 school and wrack up tons of debt and not be able to make good decisions when you are 24. Who knows man.

I do argue the opposite of your point...

Temple at full price is cheaper than most private colleges with a 1/2 to 3/4 scholarship. I guess what you're assuming is that they're not getting into other schools. Or maybe you KNOW that too. You seem to know a lot of things.

you didn't answer the question. My bad, too many big words
Big Words?...It's only 5 letters?
Let me dumb it down for all the brainwashed families who were convinced that over paying meant better!
So to draw your conclusion - every family that decided to over pay and attend "average Joe's" prep when their kid was in 8th grade, laid their head on the pillow each night and dreamed of their little Johnny going to a state school.
Now I kept the words small so you could follow along, I want you to take about 3 hours and formulate the perfect sentence (maybe consult the dolt known as No Rocks) picking a few words that NO ONE ever uses (I'm sorry, no one who isn't a prep nerd - ya know normal people that don't over pay for things) and get back to me, now remember - I need you to agree that every family who attends the prep dreams of their kid going to a state school! I'm just using the 4 families I know from our parish who's kids were average at BEST and got thru the impossible entrance exam to attend the prestigious "average Joe's prep" and 1 went to Community College, 2 went to a Penn State satellite campus and 1 went to a state school! That's just the 4 I know from my own parish, that's not even going outside my township, what would we find if we reviewed the entire 2015 graduating class? Pretty scary thoughts! ROI is just not happening! Feeling just silly now aren't you! Feel free to throw up the 1 kid who went IVY but you know what they say - Even a blind squirrel can find a nut! But I do have to hand it to the Sales Department at average Joe's they are closing and meeting their quotas. A.B.C. Always be closing! My daddy used to say, there's and A$$ for every seat!
***No Rocks, you're "LIKING" every post, similar to a 7th grade girl on Facebook, what's with that?

I do not know about PA anymore because i have lived here in NC for so long I am sure that things have changed but years ago where I am from the public school in Western PA were considered very good, and some like Mt. Lebonan, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, North Allegheny, North Hills, Peters Twp. Fox Chapel were some of the best in the state private or public. Now here in NC private schools are dying to get kids to come to their Universities because schools like UNC, NC State, UNC Charlotte, East Carolina, App State ect give a lot of bang for the buck. In fact most state schools in NC cost about $15,000 a year to attend so they have become very competitive to get into. My kids all attended public schools and I feel kids can get a great education anywhere as long ans the parents are involved

So, my kid wants to play football at St.Joe's. He takes the entrance exam and does well enough I guess but it is expensive and I need financial help. Everything looks good but unfortunately I go into see Coach Infante and act like an @ss and shoot my big mouth off and all of a sudden my financial aid package falls through. Now I just cant stand Average Joe's because my son had to settle for his safety school but really it was all my fault. Deflecting blame and judging others is what I do even though my first preference was to wear Maroon and Black and root on my boy every weekend just like the rest of you. So you see, in essence, Im really just a fraud and a wanna be as hate has darkened my heart to the point where I refuse to acknowledge my own mistakes and hate what I so desperately wanted to be a part of.

I guess I'm one of those brainwashed morons who sent my 3 kids to a private school (not the prep) and was happy they wound up in state schoools i.e. Penn State (main) and Pitt.

In fact. a bunch of their high school classmates were also major disappointments to their parents and wound up at PSU or Pitt,. Of the group, 3 or 4 are now CPAs, 3 are engineers, a couple are lawyers, 2 are in med school and one's a nurse. And yeah, there was one drop out, proving your point that private school tuition is a waste.

Another kid, a real idiot, wound up at a PSU satellite school (god forbid), then went on to earn a master's in chemistry from Villanova and is now working towards a doctorate in polymer chemistry.

Check out Pitt's or PSU's admission requirements, especially for their highly rated engineering, science and business programs, they are very competitive, especially in this economy.

Admission to college doesn't necessarily mean success in college. Look at all the kids who take 5 or 6 years to get thru. My kids all graduated on time, 2 of them with engineering degrees, don't you think their high school educations were important foundations for their success.

They may have done as well at our public high school, but I know their high school gave them a strong academic foundation and was a better experience overall. Besides, it's a free country, and my money, who are you to judge other people's decisions?

I'm pretty sure I got my money's worth.

Your 'rule' that your college tuition should be higher than your high school's is just laughable, I doubt you've had any experience with paying for a college education either that or you're in favor of student loan debt

Maroon and Black? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Please my sides hurt!
Who in the right mind refers to their HS as Maroon and Black? Too Funny! Nerd for sure!
I know you're brainwashed but a little secret...No one, absolutely No one dreams of going to the prep! Your program is most likely 4th in the city, behind Wood, LaSalle, TEP and Gratz! LaSalle owns you, Wood has 3 rings, TEP would absolutely destroy you and Gratz hung with the "school of everyones dreams" - No One wants to be you or go to your school! I'm sorry except for the kids whose parents knoe that their kid needs extra help and hand holding to get into a college.
I can almost hear how hard you are banging the key board to publish this fiction - it's early Nicholas Sparks, you know, a little on the feminine side. I bet you're wearing your prep maroon sweater vest as you wrote this!

FbU82, Read the story a little bit closer. Pretty sure it depicts you exactly. Great denial though. I don't have kids I just wanted to point out your true colors! (No pun intended but I'm sure that will go right over your head)

It's not my fault you prematurely blew your tuition load on high school and emptied your cookie jar so that there was zero money for college.

If you were smart like me you would have spent the smart money on college and not settled for the over priced HS and average state college. And ZERO Student Loans for my kids, they were either on scholarship or used their brains to get merit based scholarships and Dad's smart money CASH to get their education...So "No Loans"
sorry cup cake! Just high paying jobs secured b4 graduation!

But I can't really fault you, you just didn't know any better or you simply gambled and lost!

So to recap - YES I have plenty of experience paying for college (x5 Kids)
and NO - I'm not in favor of loans b/c I paid CASH - any other questions (smile)

You argue, that prep school is the best choice no matter what the cost but then you argue that you should go to a state school b/c it is the best deal??? I am sooooo confused? help me out?

If you knew the history of state schools, why there were created and how they were legislated and told how to educate the MASSES, you would opted for the private college, but you're good, right?

Here's a little pearl for you....
Every one of my posts have always been about the overrated education at the prep and the over priced tuition attached to that. I never, ever even mentioned the football team, so maybe you should re-read my posts dope. The first time I ever mentioned prep football was 2 minutes ago in the post above this....Make sure this doesn't go over your head like the previous posts!

Now it's time for you to get the last word in.......I'll wait for that educated last word!

Stings doesnt it FBU82 that everyone knows who and what you truly are, a fake and a fraud. Why try and send your kid their if your ideal beliefs of education go against even applying to St. Joe's? When things go wrong its time to hate! You blew it for your kid. Its alright to make mistakes. Real adults admit to their mistakes. Others, like you, fail to recognize them and continue to act and be, well, a person like you. I and hopefully all of the St. Joes members of the community on this board begin to pray for you to see the errors in your ways and hopefully become less of a miserable poster.

Doesn't it strike you as strange, sad, and maybe somewhat alarming that, as you say yourself, all of your posts have been attacks on the quality and cost of education at SJP? How about some posts about the football program at a school you admire or support?

5 kids all on scholarships, congrats. I guess they got their brains from their mother.
