Q&A with Methacton safety Matthew Blakemore

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Next year we have the pieces to win our conference as long as we stay disciplined, healthy, and learn to win as a team.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“It has to be a tossup between Spring Ford and Perk Valley; they are both very talented teams across the board with great depth at all positions. Beating either of these teams will be quite the feat, but we are prepared to do so.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Ethan Koehler QB at Perk Valley has the arm strength to make any pass and ability to extend plays with his feet. He also is the size of most linemen in our league which made him a struggle to bring down. He would give any defense problems.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I am currently not being recruited.”

Have you made any college trips yet?

We started 1 senior by the end of the year, 4-5 juniors, 4 sophomores and a freshman and got some good contributions from those younger guys. I think we may surprise some teams. We have a good skill group and the guy's up front have been working hard. I look for us to be very competitive.”

“Absolutely. Football is what I would love to play at the next level. I love playing basketball but there’s nothing like playing football.”

I have also had a few virtual visit invites from schools; Ohio Wesleyan, RPI in New York, Ursinus, and a real neat interactive Jr. Day with Puget Sound. I have had some invites to watch live stream games from W&J and Puget Sound. Ithaca has sent a few things and got some emails from a few other schools' coaches. Q&A with Hatboro-Horsham linebacker Hunter Long

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“Before lacrosse season started, I was able to hit the gym very hard, my goal is to get stronger and faster, so I pretty much followed my brother's program from Penn football, and it's been going great. Now that I'm in lacrosse season I lift 2-3 times a week but in May will go back to the grind.”

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“I feel I have improved on my explosiveness and my strength the most.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We had a very challenging year last year with a new system, but we have some great playmakers on our team, and I think we will improve greatly as a team.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We take one game at a time, so my mindset is every team we face is the toughest; I don't look past anyone.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“We play in a tough league with some great talent so it would be hard to pick out just one player.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I do plan to play a sport in college. As of right now I am most likely going to be playing football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have been recruited by Johns Hopkins and Case Western Reserve and multiple NESCAC schools including Amherst, Colby, Wesleyan, and Trinity. I have talked with the coaches from all these schools and am excited to learn more about them. Middlebury has contacted me and I'm attending their virtual junior day this Sunday as well.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I would say that I am being recruited the hardest by Johns Hopkins and Amherst. I had a great phone call with Coach Horvatits from Johns Hopkins, and I am invited to their junior day which is happening later this month. I have been talking with Coach Augustin from Amherst and participated in their junior day. It was a great experience and was very fun to learn more about Amherst College and their football program.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not done any college visits yet. Due to Covid it has been difficult to be able to see these colleges' campuses.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Once summer gets a little closer, I am planning on making many college trips to see what types of campuses I like and figure out what environment I feel most comfortable in.”

What camps are you planning to do this summer?
“I am planning on doing the Penn camp and probably any other Ivy League camps I can go to. A lot of college coaches from very good academic schools go to the Ivy League camps, so by going to those I hope to be recruited by even more schools.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up I always loved Penn State. My mom went to Penn State and ever since I was little, I always loved Penn State and Penn State football especially. No matter what college I end up going to, I think I will always keep supporting Penn State.”

Q&A with Central Bucks West linebacker Jeremy Goldrick

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“I got back into the weight room as soon as the season ended and worked through the winter with a speed coach. Now that track season has started, I go to track where I run the 100m and 200m then lift with my football teammates after practice.”

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“I've been able to put on good weight and add significant strength while also getting faster.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We're all excited for the 2021 season. We’re returning a lot of starters from last year and we have a great group of young guys coming in. We have high expectations and we’re putting in the work in order to achieve our goals.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“There's no easy week in our league, the SOL National. North Penn is bringing back a lot of good players, and they are always one of the toughest games on the schedule. There's nothing like our rivalry games against CB East and CB South because of the intensity and totally full stadiums. Right now, we are completely focused on our opening game against Coatesville. We know they are going to be very tough, they knocked us out of the district playoffs in 2019 and we all understand that we need to play at a very high level against them.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“It's hard to pick one player in a league with so many talented athletes. We'll continue to take it one week at a time and make our own standards the toughest opponent.”
