Since its coming up in discussion, and there seems to be consensus that people want to go to six classes, what would it actually look like? This is the breakdown of what the twelve districts would look like under the Super 700 proposal, where all schools with more than 700 boys would be in the 6A classification, then the remaining five classes would be evenly split (102 or 103 schools). This is what the breakdown would look like based, on straight enrollment. That means I’m not assuming anybody is playing up, like Bethlehem Catholic, Imhotep Charter, Aliquippa, Jeannette, and a host of District 12 schools do currently as compared to their enrollment. I’d imagine schools still would have the option to go up.

Nice work Rover. I can't see the WPIAL going in this direction. Even if everyone accepted the 700 enrollment class, how would the post-season be set up in 6A with only 1 team from D10, 3 from D7 and one from D8? Every other school that size is in central or eastern PA.

With 6 classes I would think this will force districts to form subregions. There won't be enough schools to go around in each district for all 6.

Nice breakdown rover, I am probably the only one that would only have 2 state champions. The AAAA and AAA winners would play for the big school championship and the AA would play the A for the small school championship.

One solution could be creating 4 regions across the state to fill out the brackets-West, Central, Northeast, Southeast

West=D7, D10, D8, D9, D6, D5
Central=D3, D4
Northeast=D11, D2
Southeast=D1, D12

Each of the regions would responsible for choosing 16 teams for the sub regions. Top 2 teams in each region make it to "State Playoffs". At that point with only 8 teams left, you would be left with the same teams that usually make it to this point.

I know this wouldn't fly in the WPIAL but most other districts don't really lose much by going to this format. Just one suggestion

With this solution, you 6A subregionals would be split up like this:

West - 7 teams
Central - 12 teams
Northeast - 13 teams
Southeast - 35 teams

Also, in the northeast, six of those 13 teams combined to go 11-51 last year, not exactly playoff material. I actually think in this format for 6A they'd have to go with a "Philadelphia vs the World" format where D1 and D12 is one half of the bracket and the rest of the state is the other half. That is a 35-32 split.

That will work too-a true "East vs. West":)

The remaining 5 classes wouldn't be a huge problem except that the smaller classes would be shifted the other way with it being the "WPIAL vs. the World" in 1A and 2A.

In keeping with the current playoff system (6 playoff games to win the title), would the PIAA actually consider letting 64 of 67 teams in the playoffs. I presume the other 5 classes will have 64 to start?

If only 16 were invited on each side of the bracket, how would all those districts outside of D1/D12 determine who gets the 16 spots? If it's D1/D12, how would these two districts split the spots? If both use the same point system, bye bye to all those SJP killer non-league schedules.

Can you imagine a Parkland-Erie McDowell first round game?

How about if they leave the four classes unchanged, except to pull out the private schools and put the privates into small and large divisions? It also might be realistic to consolidate the public schools into three divisions.
